But uh..I was alto. Vera-Ellen 12-24-2002, 03:38 AM Well, when I was younger and first started training, my voice teacher had me sing alto in every choir I was in, for ear training purposes. Therefore, my lower range developed pretty well. However, I'm actually a soprano, and have been trained in my coloratura range... I've played coloratura roles such as Mabel in "The Pirates of Penzance" and Gianetta in "The Gondoliers." So, technically, I'm a soprano, but I think I enjoy belting in my lower range more (I'm a musical theatre major -- go figure I'd prefer the belting)! *Bethany-Lynne* -*Forever*- 12-24-2002, 04:04 AM Alto. I have the deepest voice for a girl (heh right Allie? She won't read this but she asked me what part I sang and I said "Alto" and she said "I figured as much" :p) Warm & Fuzzy 12-24-2002, 04:11 AM Originally posted by -*Forever*- Alto. I probably have the highest-pitched voice in my school choral program. I can also sing some alto notes too.. but they're truely unrecognizable when an alto/soprano note is played in harmony. Titania 12-24-2002, 11:28 AM ive sang both before- if its a reasonably low soprano part i end up with that- otherwise alto. did that make any sense? technically im an alto but since the only times i really sing are in musical theater it depends on the parts i end up in. It's very rare to find a TRUE alto or lyrical soprano... most people's natural range is mid-range, and it's all a matter of which end you choose to focus on strengthening. Some people go both ways... some people prefer their lower register and enjoy harmonizing, whereas other's prefer their upper register. The majority of people usually try to be "sopranos," however, because they think that's what makes a beautiful voice (I've encountered that many a time). In my honest opinion, it takes more talent to sing the alto parts because it requires harmonizing, and that requires a good ear. It's more challenging, but some people fear challenge. I also enjoy that nice rich, smooth, round sound that many alto's possess. It's so soothing. Also, many alto's have very wide ranges, because in order to approach the lower notes, you use the same technique to sing in your upper register. It's the same relaxation and dropping the jaw, etc., only you're in your head voice. So, that's my opinion about altos. Gotta love 'em! Alto's rock! *pouts* I'm going to write my own version of The Soprano's Lament... has anyone ever heard a rendition of The Alto's Lament? It's the GREATEST song. Look it up on Kazaa or whatnot... under Emily Skinner as the artist... she does a kick ass rendition of it! *Bethany-Lynne* *Marilyn Monroe* 12-24-2002, 02:18 PM I'm a soprano...the waaaaay up there on the staff kinda soprano. :D shavelyLBC34 12-24-2002, 03:36 PM alto AllIWantIsYourClutch 12-24-2002, 03:39 PM Originally posted by shavelyLBC34 alto WOO ALTO!
