Have you noticed that the Bunker home seems darker in the ABP episodes, especially the ones after Edith's death? It was probably due to production being moved back to Television City and the lighting was different. Or they may have wanted a darker feel to show that Archie was in mourning.

Or maybe it was Edith who liked to keep more lights on and without her, Archie could save on the electric bill. In any case, without Edith, it was never the same.

That would be my guess. I was wondering the same thing, Jon.

Oh wow, I'm so glad someone else noticed, LOL. I posted the same thing in the final episode thread. The house was so dark. It was almost eerie. And you're right, without Edith, it was never the same.

In 1979 the lighting was normal but 80-83 you could tell that there was change. I wanted to bring this topic up before jon123 did. LOL. It represented a gloomy side and in many ways effectively depressing.

AITF & ABP ROCK!!

Even during the 1979 - 1980 season the house seemed a little gloomy, which is strange because one of the lighting directors {Art Roberts} worked on AITF from 1972 - 1974 in different episodes and the house wasn't that gloomy then.

I noticed that the ABP episodes are darker in the house too. I wonder why and they idea above are good ones. Any of them could have been true (mourning, different lighting crew etc).

Iv'e noticed this too. My assumption as to why the ABP episodes were so much darker was maybe they were trying to save money. Since ABP wasn't stellar in the ratings maybe they had to cut down on expenses. I'm just not totally sure though. Your guess is as good as mine.

Also, in the later AITF and early ABP episodes, there is a picture of Mike and Gloria on the table next to the phone by the staircase. In later ABP episodes it is gone. There are now no family pictures anywhere to be seen. I think a picture of Edith would have been appropriate. (Maybe it was on top of the TV set, which was on the "fourth wall", which we never see).

I thought I saw the pictures of a young Carroll and Jean in the bedroom on ABP too, but I could be mistaken. They were/are the pictures hanging on the wall. They're in black and white.
