SPLAIN 12-23-2002, 02:34 PM Again, great choices, the thing is after not seing them in years i still remember them from the titles!
oldshows 12-23-2002, 08:11 PM It's hard to forget Lucy's classic episodes which does prove Lucy's later shows did have true great classics!
SPLAIN 12-24-2002, 11:43 AM Stop thinking you have to keep saying that, the reason nobody else feels the same way, or rather that you think that, is because NOBODY gets to see those shows anymore. When ILL is on sale on DVD season by season, they will finally bring out her other two series and everybody will say the same thing, THERE WERE A LOT OF GREAT SHOWS IN THE OTHER TWO SERIES, SOME JUST AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER THAN MOST ILL EPISODES!
oldshows 12-24-2002, 04:14 PM Yes, I know nobody gets to them anymore and I'm one of them. I just remember how good they were and would really like to see them again.
oldshows 12-24-2002, 04:16 PM When are they bring out the post ILL shows on DVD? Is this going to include HL?
oldshows 12-24-2002, 04:42 PM Sorry for repeating this often. It's just there are some episodes from TLS and HL I really love. And its not neccessarily that I think nobody feels the way I do, I know there are some people that do feel the way I do, in fact many who do. But I do know there are some ILL fans who don't care for TLS and HL and say there aren't any good episodes from those shows. I remember having a discussion with some a while back on the ILL board and he said the ONLY good episode from HL was Lucy Meets the Burtons. I know if they got a chance to see them again they might change their mind. I guess when that's who I'm talking to even if they may not be listening.

I agree on this. I get what you are saying. Whenever I go to chat on the TV Land boardroom, I ask what was everyone's favorite episode is of TLS/HL and they would say something like: "I don't have a favorite" or "I don't even like her later shows", or "I prefer I Love Lucy much better", or "I love Lucy but not that much".
Then I would ask if they even seen an episode or a lot of them and they would say something like: "Yes, it was an horrible episode" or "Yes, but where was Ricky and Fred?", or "Yes, but it wasn't as classic as any I Love Lucy episode". I absolutely hate those kind of answers. It gives me the feeling the neither one of her later shows are worth watching when they are truly are. Then I hate it when many people take down or make fun of her later shows just because they didn't "surpass" the standards of I Love Lucy or any other show like All in the Family. I think people (who are non-fans of her later work) under rate her later shows way too much and that could be the very reason why the shows aren't on today.
oldshows 12-25-2002, 07:24 PM Exactly! I just hate it when people try to compare TLS and HL to ILL. ILL is the GREATEST show of all time. Its incomparable. Just take TLS and HL for what they are, good shows with some very good classic episodes, some of which are as good as ILL.
SPLAIN 12-26-2002, 03:34 PM OK, three things: The reason Lucy's later shows aren't on as much as the greatest show of all time is they are afraid of overexposure, let's face it, who else has this problem of having so many top ten series available?, they don't show all of Bob Newhart's shows either, do they show Perry Mason after Ironside? Secondly, i'm 52, so i remember the world saying it for 50 years now, or at least 40, The Lucy show is no ILL, then they said Here's Lucy is no Lucy show, then they said Life with Lucy was this poor imitation of her earlier work. I was watching John Ritter's new show yesterday and was stunned how bad it was, maybe because i had just watched the Three's Company Christmas show. Thing is John is another Lucy, he's so good, he surpasses his material, you don't watch Simple Rules, you watch another John Ritter show. Lucy, and to a lesser extent John are lovable charismatic actors who make any show they're in greater than it would be without them. Lastly, when i go to this HUGE video supplier downtown and see the crap that's available on DVD, season after season of every show imaginable, but no Lucy show or Here's Lucy, well, there are a few Lucy shows, but not the best ones, i don't know when they'll come out, but i do know they have to have a better chance once ILL is available season by season and after 50 years, they'll FINALLY wake up to the fact that they have more cash cows called Lucy show and Here's Lucy!
oldshows 12-26-2002, 09:36 PM I'm sure overexposure is a part of it. But I remember back in the mid to late 90s before TVLand came into being, NickatNite did show both The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart and they did it back to back. Nick also had a Lucy Sunday where ILL, TLS, and TLDCH was shown back to back to back. I'm sure eventually TLS and HL will be back on the air. I know Hallmark is currently considering showing TLS again and is even holding a survey. So maybe they will show it since they don't show any other of Lucy's shows as TVLand does.
SPLAIN 12-27-2002, 03:20 PM Let's hope so, so the youngsters on these boards will finally know what we've been talking about all these years!

Well actually it was a Saturday not a Sunday. Nick at Nite used to called "Lucy: Queen of Comedy" Saturday Night Block.
oldshows 12-29-2002, 10:27 PM Yes, they had that too in the early 90s. But around 1995 and 1996 they had a Lucy Sunday too. I remember because I'm only 20 so I had school back then(well its college now) and I always had to go to bed after Lucy was over at 10 because I had school the next day.
SPLAIN 12-30-2002, 03:39 PM You're only 20 and yet you know so much about these subjects, i thought you were a lot older from your expertise in these topics, PLEASE COME TO THE OTHER BOARDS!
oldshows 12-30-2002, 06:10 PM Yes, I'm still pretty young but I've been fortunate enough to have watched The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy. I watched The Lucy Show on Nick in the mid 90s and then on a local station in the late 90s. I was able to watch Here's Lucy on Pax in the late 90s. I've loved them every since and feel lucky to have been exposed to them. I've also read 6 Lucy biographies, 2 of which I own. So I guess all that has helped make up for my younger age. What other boards do you go on?

I recall Nick at Nite airing only I Love Lucy and The Lucy Show back-to-back on Sunday Nights at 8:30/9:00pm in the evening. I have the Nick at Nite schedules that go back to 1985.

It is nice to see someone just about my age into Lucy and her shows. I really don't know anyone at my school that even likes her shows. It feels really odd. But oh well. I too feel fortunate and lucky to even get to see her shows, nonetheless, own them. I watched a lot I Love Lucy and The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour and a little bit of The Lucy Show when they were on Nick at Nite. I truly became a Lucy Fan in 1997 and I have been one ever since. I watched and looked forward to Here's Lucy when it came on PAX-TV. It aired at 12:00 & 12:30pm. I remember turning on the tv and flipping the channel to PAX at lunchtime. Those were the good ol' times. I love all of her shows including her last one Life With Lucy. I have seen many of her episodes from all five of her series and I continue to rewatch them whenever.

I became a Lucy fan in either 93 or 94.
I fell in love with "The Lucy Show" first and then "I Love Lucy".
Infact for the longest time I prefered TLS to ILL, and in some ways I still do.
BTW
LOL, we're the same age.

LOL, I've said it before, but I cannot even put into words how happy I was to finally see "Here's Lucy" during that time.
Anyway, Happy New Year to all of you!
oldshows 12-31-2002, 10:57 PM Gosh, I didn't realize I was on here with a bunch of people my own age. I knew Dawsongirl(ILL moderator) is 21 but I figured everyone else was older. It's good to know people my own age love Lucy. I remember watching ILL when I was only 6 or 7, before I knew anything about TLS and HL. Then I remember in 1992 Nick started showing TLS and I instantly had a like for that show as well. I watched my first HL episode in 1995 during a Nick Lucy Special but I didn't get to see it again until 1999 with Pax. I found I really liked HL too. I guess since then I've really been a diehard Lucy fan and began reading biographies on her. I just think its amazing someone can have not 2 but 3 back to back top 5 t.v. series. Oh, That Other Fan, I got The Lucy Book for Christmas and I do see what you mean about the author being somewhat critical of the later series.
SPLAIN 01-02-2003, 02:48 PM Lucy Talk, Lucy in the classroom and Babalu's site, they could all use someone like you, i would die happy if all Lucy and Desi fans went on all the boards, they all offer something different!
