Well, since this is my senior year I am flooded with colleges apps.

Since California (in my opinion) has the best universities, I'm applying to many in Cal.

Here's my list--

I've rounded down my choices to apply early decision to either Amherst or Columbia. I have good grades and extra curriculars, so I think I can get into one or the other and I'll apply Early Action to Harvard and see where that goes.

CU Denver (I haven't actually applied yet, but I'm considering it)

I only sent out one application and I know'll think that I'm stupid for doing that, but fact is I don't have money to toss around when trying to apply to schools. I'm just a poor high school student and about to become a poorer college student. So basically if I don't get into Boulder, I'll just go to a small community college somewhere on the East Coast, most likely in Boston. If not, then oh well. Tough cookies.

Well my parents want me to go to this college in Florida where you get a degree in Recording or something. I want to live in Nashville and be a country songwriter or record producer so I guess that'd make sense.

I'm only a freshman in high school...so I havent applied anywhere, and I wont for a while. But, does anyone have any suggestions of what to look into if you want to be a doctor?

I haven't applied yet, but I'm planning to go to SIAST. I want to take Advanced Video Systems. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to go back for a semester or so next year to upgrade because I need math A and B30 to get into the class. I took a break from math this year because I suck at math and need more time to focus on my social, bio and psych class. Luckily, I can still graduate this year because I only need a 20 level math to graduate. Hopefully I'll be better at math next year. :p

For you I'd suggest University of Iowa. They have a good medical school.

Lander University ( should be hearing from them soon!)

Clemson University

NYU, Hofstra, CW Post, and Adelphi. They are all in NY.

Where do you live? Those colleges are really close to where I live.

I'm only a sophomore but I know where I want to go. I wnat to go to Mt. Wachusett Community College.

Well, I *did* apply to Juilliard last year. Got in, but wouldn't go. I got in for classical voice, but I don't want to study that. I'm a dancer and actress as well, and I just wouldn't have been happy. I'm a musical theatre girl. So, I ended up taking the semester off... and this summer I applied to The American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Got in with a nice scholarship, and I'll be going out there in February... I'll be a lot happier studying voice AND dance and acting. So, those are the only two schools I actually applied to. I'm not big on academics... I just want to be performing. Not that I don't enjoy learning... it's just my mind is always preoccupied and I can't focus because I'd rather be singing and dancing. :-)

Those are two REALLY good schools around here in MA. Mt. Holyoke is in South Hadley and Smith is in Northhampton. If I decide to stay local (they are 15 minutes from me), I'll probably apply to those

If you want to go to school to be a doctor, it wont matter much where you go, doctors are always in demand.

state colleges are less expensive and often have more availablity of courses. If you can live at home, thats even better; it will reduce your stress. A lot of medical schools look for applicants with a strong background in the liberal arts as well as people who are likely to make it. You might consider getting a degree first as a nurse, because then you'll have tons of practical experience, plus a decent paying job with ultra flexible should you need one to fall back on. Also, if you find you hate being a nurse, then at least you will
be able to make a career switch decision before you are completed with college.

A lot of it will depend on what you want personally. If you go to a technical college or community college and get a licensed practical nurse degree, which takes a little over a year full time, you will be able to get pay and work experience almost immediately. Or you could get a 2 or 4 year college degree as a registered nurse.

If you go the LPN route, that leaves you free to pursue a bachelor degree in something else, like computers, languages, or science. Several years of work as a nurse will also make you an attractive candidate with practical experience and a sharp competitive edge.
Back when i was looking in to it, many medical schools listed this for minimum undergraduate degree requirements:

1 yr to 3 semesters of chemisrty
math as high as calculus
a biology class
a physics class (sometimes)

any degree with a minor in chemisrty and some classes in microbiology should serve you very well.

Meangya, well, I graduated last year and never took my SAT (:woohoo: ). I was SO confused as to where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do. I told my guidance counselor I wanted to be a TV Historian..she didnt know what it was. Frankly, I dont think anyone does. My Mom said I should be a TV Critic because I watch enough of it lol. Basically, I wanna do anything that has to do with TV (not starring, directing, producing..nothing like that)-- writing books, being a critic, being pres of a network!:D Or, working for Conan :grineyes:. Actually, you can intern for him but you gotta be a sophomore in college..aaaaand Im not nor do I plan on it. I dont want to go to a "real" college/university. I used to..but for ALL the wrong reasons. I wanted to join clubs and stuff- what a waste. I told my Dad Im just going to go to a technical school and work in that profession. He wants me to get into nursing or computers for $$, but I want to go to Empire Beauty School for nails. He gives me that "theres not money in nails" speech everytime I bring up school. I just decided to do that and graduate in under 11 months, that way I can get a job for that. Id like to get into real estate too. I dont like standing up all day jobs (which is what I do know- ick), Ive always been attracted to the sitting down @ your cubicle all day kinda job. Ugh, I dunno- Im so confused. I swear I think about this all the time and end up with NOTHING. Meangya- why cant I marry rich?!

Well, in May I'm going to graduate with a BA in English from a 4-year university. All it will mean is that I spent 5 years and too much money to get a piece of paper that says I went to college. It won't get me anything else than that. So I say go to tech school.

Thats what I told my Dad. People go for an education, but I know Id get nothing out of it. Tech is calling my name.

Me and Amanda are the only 2 out of our friends that didnt apply or anything. We couldve cared less. We're glad we didnt have to take the SAT's, and we're both happy that we're not in school now. But, I can only do that for so long, and times running out. Ugh. Id love to be 16 right now-- I wouldnt be having this proble,!:mad:
