I realize I may be "steppin' in it" by bringing this up, but here goes. Be gentle.
Am I the only one who thinks that there should someday be a colorized edition of TDVDS? Now don't all shout at once! Hear me out. As technology advances, the ability to realistically colorize b/w photography gets better and better. It may even soon be possible to make old b/w film look as though it were originally shot in color on a digicam. Just like all of you, I've always enjoyed our show as it is, but would really like to see what a difference color would make, and I don't see anything wrong with having it available as an option.
Of course, anyone not wanting to see a colorized edition could simply turn down the color on their TV, or maybe it should even be a separate edition, considering the inevitable and considerable cost to colorize all 158 episodes.

Don't worry, Steve, I won't hit you! ;) I like you too much for that. Anyway, I sort of agree with you. I do agree that a colorized version of TDVDS should be made availible for fans who feel the way you do. However, I personally would prefer to see it in it's original b&w. But then again, that would drive up the cost of DVD's for the rest of us.

:p First, thanks for that great link, Steve! I wish I had better than a 28.8 connection but I'll mudlle through anyhow... It was a really strange feeling seeing the color photos of the cast. I can't explain it, but if the eps were colorized, for me it just wouldn't be the same. And now I'm really gonna sound crazy, but these people I grew up with and love, and their whole world, ARE black and white!

The B&W is part of the appeal. To watch them in color wouldn't create the same warm nostalgic time warp feeling I get whenever I watch today. I think we as viewers tend to form an identification with a show we like, a sort of kinship, and anything that alters the familiarity we have with the show creates an obstacle between us and that bond we've forged. This may be why so many fans of The Andy Griffith Show reject the color eps. They didn't all suck; it's just that we were used to seeing Ang, Barney, Aunt Bee and Opie in black and white and didn't want anybody messing around with a winning formula.

But confusing rant aside, I would watch a colorized DVD episode. However I would *buy* only those in B&W!

First, let me say that I admire your guts for posting an opinion that, as you predicted, would draw criticism. I'm sure you have your reasons for wanting a colorized version of TDVDS. Whatever those reasons are, I hope they're a little more compelling than just idle curiosity or because the technology is greatly improved. :talk: As someone, somewhere, once said, "Just because something CAN be done, doesn't mean it SHOULD be done."

:thought: Personally, I can't justify the time and expense it would take to colorize the show. I think it wopuld be pointless and wouldn't adds any value (monetary or otherwise). Moreover, for me anyway, it would be like colorizing my memories (much like old B/W family photos). Sorry, but that's how I feel.
