Jo, of course. I think it was because more people could relate to her. Her parents weren't doctors or lawyers or millionaires. They were just regular people like most of us. And, she didn't always have all the answers. She tried to hide her emotions and feelings much like alot of girls. So, I think she was the most popular because of that.

They were each popular in their own way.

I'd say Blair Warner was the most popular of the four girls.
Hey, 85% of people polled said they can relate to Blairs good religious ways in later seasons. Jo may have had her days on seasons 2 and 3, but the whole show was always about Blair Warner. Way to go Lisa Whelchel, you go you Texas girl!!!

Have any of you ever heard of an old myth that says that anyone from the great state of Texas always has the popularity thing and fortune thing going for them? It just so happens that Lisa Whelchel and her Blair Warner character are all born in the great state of Texas.

----HEY, THE EYES OF TEXAS ARE UPON YOU!-------

Buy the way, did you know our president of the United States is also from Texas?

Hey, George Bush, Lisa Whelchel, Blair Warner, and Patrick Swayzee all have something in common, they are all from Texas!!!

You see, Jo is a New Yorker and is probably into Hip-Hop music and hard-core gangster rap, while Blair Warner is a 100% pure certified West Texan who probably likes country music and Buddy Holly music. Oh hell yeah, Blair Warner will always be my Texas Tornado.

the whole show was not about blair.
it was equally about all the girls. Oh and the show was originally created for the Character of Mrs. G. It was a showcase for Charlotte Rae, at first. then in season two they cut down the cast and added Jo. after that, it was about the four girls and Mrs. Garrett.
How many eps have you actually seen?

"Feelings".......i don't know about you but that doesnt sound like hip hop or gangster rap to me.

Feelings, nothing more than feelings, trying to forget my feelings of love. tear drops rolling down my face.........

If you all think Jo is the most popular character on the show, then why was Nancy Mckeon the last name on the credit billings and Lisa Whelchel the next name on the credit billings after Charlotte Raye A.K.A. Mrs. G?

You want to talk about character popularity?
Let's talk.
I'll give you a good example of where a character's popularity has caused the actor's name to move in the credits name spot by the seasons.

The Fonz on Happy Days!!!

Thats right, because the Fonz was a very popular character on Happy Days, Henry Winkler's name was moved from one of the last in the credits to the second from first, and then eventually the number one spot.

But where is Jo and Nancy McKeon, the very last spot.

Even Mac Astin and George Clooney had better spots than poor Nancy Mckeon.

So there you got it!!!

WE are not talking about Happy days here pal. we are talking about FOL. THE MAKERS OF FOL and the makers of Happy Days are diffrent people and so will do their credits in diffrent ways. FOL STUCK TO TRADITION. because Jo was the last main character to be introduced they put her last. and no Andy is not a main character nor was george or pippa, they were part of the supporting cast. I am so annoyed with you right now

i'm not posting anything else to you right now. i need to breath and you're stupidity is sufficating me!

you are talking about actual people here not tv characters. truthfully you don't know what music Jo liked because that part of her character was never shown. stop making judgments on a fictional character, there is no way you can be right because no one knows the answer to "what music Jo liked" you idiot

On this boards, JO def. According to me..Id have to say Tootie. I think more people know her more, just because of the nickname-- it stands out. They mention the name Tootie on TV shows and stuff. But, that doesnt make her the most likeable etc.. We all have our favorites. Mines Blair, and I think she was more popular in the first season compared to the others, but once Jo came, they all uniquely stuck out.

Okay, I've got a question. It's cool that this person doesn't like Jo. We aren't exactly holding a gun to your head telling you that you must like Jo. However, why must you diss Jo in just about every post you make?

Hell, I love All in the Family and when they added the Stephanie character she was my least favorite of them all. You see me gonna over there posting post after post about not liking Stephanie? I drop the subject. When someone posts a least favorite post, I'll talk about Stephanie there. I don't mention it other wise.

I respect every member of this forum and I swear I'm not trying to pick a fight with this mapmanmsl. It's just every post this person has made is begging for a fight. Again, I'm just stating my opinion and I'm not trying to piss anybody off or start a fight.

GOOOOOOOOO JENNY! I as usual, I agree with you.

another thing, mapmanmsl, Blair Warner, wasn't from Texas. SHE was GOING TO BE a nice girl from Texas, but Lisa Whelchel read the line condescendingly and changed the whole Blair personality, and they made Blair from New York...so, I dunno WHERE you come up with all these "facts" about Facts of Life...but, you need to check them...because they are FAR from the TRUTH! You can look A LOT of places and figure out that JO, is the most popular...I don't like Jo, either...but, I'm with everyone else on this...CHECK YOUR FACTS, MAN!

the fact of the matter is... Jo was the most popular character on fol and everybody i know that watches the show loves Jo. But if nancy mckeon walked down my street the only person that would be jumping up and down would be me cause if you say i love nancy mckeon people are gonna go huh? cause nancy mckeon is the most private person in showbusiness

I would have to say Blair Warner. Lisa Whelchel was the one that movie producers wanted out of the four in their very movies, ya know. Plus, every guy out there had a big time crush on Blair Warner. No wander Blair was so damn popular out of the four girls. Plus Lisa Whelchel also reportedly had some big time movie directors coming to her wanting her in their next big movies. Look at old people magazine reports on Lisa Whelchel during the 80's.
You'll see!

I'd say Jo - and the whole "why was nancy mckeons name last" thing is simple to answer - When making credits you always put the star 1st than the other cast and lastly the other "star" or in thei case more popular girl. Haven't u ever watched show where they say - " Starring - blah blah - than they list names and put - also starring blah blah " That's the way it worked. It's always been that way. It's a secret you learn in television production classes...

Before i even watched the Facts of Life i heard Nancy Mckeon's character and Tootie getting mentioned moreso than the others. So i will have to say that Jo and Tootie are the most popular with the general audience.

Wow, I haven't been on this site in ages. Anyway, I don't know.... I was just rewatching a few episodes recently and I think the Jo/Blair dynamic is pretty entertaining and the most fun to watch. For that reason alone I would say Jo and Blair are the most popular rather than Jo and tootie. Tootie does have some really good comedic timing though, and Natalie is a freakin riot. Still though I think Jo and Blair were more popular characters.

I'd say they all were popular in their own way.

The show was about them and Mrs. G., but of the 4 girls, Blair was the lead, not Jo. Jo was not in season 1. Blair was there from the beginning and by the end she was still there. She was a big part of the spin-off episode, the pilot episode, and also the 2 part series finale.

If I had to choose one only, I would choose Natalie because she was the funnest of the 4. She was always Jolly, fun, sweet, caring, funny, and someone I could see myself being friends with. Jo was street punk, Blair was a snob and tootie was a snoop when they were first on the show, but Natalie always had that fun and sweet in her.

Agree with you on most of this but not necessarily that Blair was the lead. I mean, season 1, Mrs. G and Blair were definitely the leads. Seasons 2 through the end it felt more spread out between everyone with a little more emphasis on Jo and Blair. (BTW, I only typed Jo name first because she's my favorite, not because I think she out ranks Blair in the grand scheme of things).

Actually the show was about Mrs. Garrett first; the girls came secondary. This was in season 1, but my how things sadly changed (for Edna/Charlotte) by season 6...

At first, but she grew to be very obnoxious and disagreeable at times. Check out "From Russia With Love", and some of the later seasons...
