Are there any Christmas songs that bring tears to your eyes?

One for me is "I'll be Home for Christmas". I love the song, but it's so sad when you really think about it. "I'll be home for Christmas, but only in my dreams."

Another is "Grown-Up Christmas List" by Amy Grant.

That is a sad song. "I'll be home for Christmas" was written during WWII, and it's sung from the soldier's point of view. That's why it's "if only in my dreams".

I'll Be Home For Christmas was written and became popular during World War II. It came to be a nostalgic song for the soldiers overseas. Yes it is kind of sad!:(

Grandma Got ran over by a reindeer

i know it is supposed to be a funny song, and i really used to like it. but ever since my grandma passed away 2 years ago the one verse near the end makes me sad. "It's just not Christmas without grandma, all the family is dressed in back and we all can't help but wonder, should we open up her gifts or send them back."
My grandma died 2 days after Thanksgiving in 2000 so that verse just hits a sad cord with me. go figure

"River" by Joni Mitchell

Also recorded by:

Dave Von Ronk (1973)
Reilly & Maloney (1984)
Janis Siegel & Fred Hersch (1980'S)
Don Henley (Live) (1991)
Betty Buckley (1994)
Rosanne Cash (1995)
The Indigo Girls (Live) (1995)
Heart (Live) (1995)

Here is the lyrics:

It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on
But it don't snow here
It stays pretty green
I'm going to make a lot of money
Then I'm going to quit this crazy scene
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
Oh I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I made my baby cry.

He tried hard to help me
He put me at ease
Lord, he loved me so naughty
Made me weak in the knees
I wish I had a river I could skate away on
I'm so hard to handle
I'm selfish and I'm sad
Now I've gone and lost the best baby
That I ever had
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
Oh I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh I wish I had a river
I made my baby say goodbye

It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on.

I know it's not a sad song, but the melody of What Child Is This? always sounds depressing to me.
