I love this ep. It's so full of heart and shows exactly what is so great about this show. They really knew how to add just enough pathos without being preachy. I like how the beginning about the poor people comes in and then the Beav and Wally get to meet kids who are living in a different class then they are.

Yeah, that was a good episode. That was kind of surprising behavior coming from June, but truthfully that is how some people act. They did consider that and put that into play.

I've seen this episode today, too. I felt sorry for those kids. They didn't have as much stuff as Wally and Beaver.

Is that why wally asked ward to see if they can build stuff together and beaver telling june she was prettier then a movie star because they relized how lucky they were? i missed half of the episode and never saw it before

Yes, I think Wally and Beaver's eyes were opened. I think think Wally was particularly surprised by the fun he could have when he meets the older of the two boys. Wally realizes how much a father can teach his son and I think that's why he asks Ward to help him. The trashman's kids were able to appreciate the simple things like lying on the lawn and looking up at the sky. I didn't know so much if it was that they were poor, just kind of more in tune with the simpler things in life.

As for June's attitude, I suppose it was not her finest moment. She did betray a sense of snobbery there that we don't often get to see, but I wasn't surprised necessarily. June comes from a very pristine background. And don't forget, there was a lot of that snobbery and prejudice around in the fifties. I grew up in Queens, New York and just a couple of years younger than Jerry Mathers. If I told my mother I was going to the "other" side of town to play with some strange kids who were the garbage man's kids (read lower class) I don't think my mother would have reacted any differently.

I like this one too. June is a good person but she worries too much. I think what it is about is the kids all have different things. The other kids show Beaver and Wally what Beaver and Wally have but they also show what the kids have. I think thats one of the reasons they write June the way they do in the episode. In a way she can't really see that lying around in the grass can be good too. They just have different lives. June might feel pretty safe in hers and not want to see other peoples. Beaver is different. Hes curious and always wants to know whats going on.
