Diff'rent Strokes:

I think they knew it was going to be the last year, but the last episode had no closures at all. Maybe they were thinking they would be renewed but got the Axe.

Gimme A Break!:

I think this show could have done 1 more year. It was Abruptly Cancelled says Lara Jill Miller. The last episode had no closure to the show either.

Silver Spoons:

I think they would have done a final episode if they knew it was the final one. Maybe they thought they were coming back another season

Full House:

Yes, it was said it was going to the WB, but Uncle Jesse did not want to be in it, so they decided on ABC to say that the 1hr episode was the final fling!

Family Matters:

This show just got cancelled as well after the final episode aired of that current season (9). They all were told they would return for a 10th season, but the sets were destroyed!

(Anyone else know of any other shows that were Unexpectedly cancelled that they cast thought they were going to be renewed for another year and never had a proper farewell??)

I was shocked by FOX's last season cancellations.

I couldn't believe they cancelled, Ally McBeal, Dark Angel, and Titus.

I don't think the cast of NewsRadio knew if they were going to be cancelled or not.

Batman- Not exactly a sitcom, but it was set to go for a 4th season and then they got canceled. Then they got a call saying they could go for a 4th season, but it was too late. They had already destroyed some of the sets and it would've cost way too much to build them back again.

How about all of the rural sitcoms from CBS in 1971, The Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, and Mayberry RFD. Of course TBH should have called it quits 3 seasons sooner. Those last 3 seasons were bad. Same way with Petticoat Junction, it just wasn't the same when Bea died. Green Acres after 5 seasons really didn't need to do a sixth anyways. Mayberry RFD, well, it was only in its 3rd but it didn't compare to TAGS. I do wish CBS would have given these shows a chance to have a series ending episode.

Gilligan's Island was cancelled in 1967, after originally slated to go a fourth season (1967-1968).

I'm glad it didn't go to the WB. They would have destroyed what they show was all about.
