I was wondering when Redd Foxx left the show in 1977 and Sanford and Son was cancelled ultimately,why didn't they have Sanford and Son,only with Lamont, Janet, and Roger as the main characters??? The same happened on Laverne and Shirley when Cindy Williams left in 1982 and Penny Marshall took over the show yet they still called it Laverne and Shirley!!! Also when All In The Family became Archie Bunker's Place!!! Comments, please!!!

No it wouldn't have worked because Lamnt was no where near entertaining. The entertaining characters were Fred, Aunt Esther, Rollo, Bubba, and Grady. So no one I think would have tuned in to see Lamont for 30 minutes.

I like Lamont and all that, but he wouldn't be able to pull up a show all by himself. He had to have Redd in order to make it work.

Of course, that's not to say that Demond Wilson wouldn't have given it the old college try. For those of you who remember the sitcom he did after S&S was cancelled, "Baby, I'm Back" where, in the first few episodes his Ray Ellis character was a kind of superconfident wiseguy, sort of like Bugs Bunny, I felt that he could've carried on on "Sanford and Son"...provided he had good writing support!!

Demond Wilson wanted too much money after Redd Foxx left so Lamont left with Fred. It's too bad he didn't return with Redd three years later then it would have been "Sanford & Son" again instead of just "Sanford" and that might have worked. "Sanford Arms" was a total disaster and was cancelled after four episodes.

with fred gone, they could have brought grady back to live with lamont, fight with ester, pal around with bubba, and put down rollo. it was done before. those episode were pretty god.

No, I Dont think it would be very good to give Lamont a show without Fred their to yell at him. Not to say hes a bad actor, But the CHARACTER of Lamont wouldnt be able to carry show unles they added a new funny loudmouth character to yell at him, But even than i dont think the audience would buy the fact that Freds gone and would probably reject the show even it it did turn out good.

I don't think Lamont as the star of a show would have been that great.He just didn't have what Fred(Redd) had to carry a show as the star.:crazy:
