Tarzan, the Ape Man (1981)

Ghosts Can't Do It (1990)

The only Bo Derek movie I can recall ever seeing was 10. I thought it was pretty good.

I saw "10" last night. That was the movie that made her famous. Her husband, John Derek, directed the three movies in the poll and Leonard Maltin says that they are virtually unwatchable. I haven't seen any of them, so I didn't vote. I do know that they contain a lot of nudity and bad acting.

Bo Derek is a one-hit wonder whose greatest asset was her beauty. Not much acting talent there, that I could see anyway.

Are you saying she actually had a good one?

I think that person is referring to "10."

Ah, yes, 10 was a good movie.
Reason?
Bo Derek had a very limited role, she was required to do no more than look good, and her husband John Derek had nothing to do with that film.
Bo made a big mistake by allowing her untalented hubby to direct her career. She could have been another great movie sex symbol.

Her first motion picture was Orca. I have not seen this movie, so I don't know if it is bad or not but it got 2 stars from Leonard Maltin. In that movie, she got her leg bitten off by a killer whale.

She had a bit part in "Orca." (pardon the pun)

"Orca" tried to capitalize on the whole "Jaws" scary fish thing.
Richard Harris was okay, but it wasn't what you would consider a Bo Derek film.

I know Bo Derek had a small role in "Orca" so I just felt it was worth mentioning.

Unfortunalty, the poor woman doesn't really have an extensive filmography.
It's a shame, becasue I think she could have gone further with her career.

I liked Orca, but not because Bo Derek was in it or even that she got killed in the movie. She was also in Tommy Boy which was a good movie, but again, not because of her.

The only movie I saw on that list was Bolero, which was nothing but horses and hooters. ;) Pardon my french.

What a coincidence. "Ghosts Can't Do It" was nothing but dead people and hooters...

The problem did stem from her svengali husband, the late John Derek. He mismanaged and derailed her career. From what I've read, he made unreasonable demands to producers and directors, would insist on too much creative control, demand too much money, etc.
She was marketed wrong. By the time he realized his errors, she wasn't a red hot commodity any more. He blew it.
John Derek was a former movie idol and director, and I think Bo just trusted him to do the right thing. His former wives include Ursula Andress, and Linda Evans whom he dumped for Bo Derek when she was only 16.
The actress/manager-husband team can be disastrous sometimes. It was Suzanne Somer's husband, Alan Hamill, who orchestrated her exit from Three's Company with his unreasonable negotiations.

Bingo, Janice. John Derek insisted on writing, directing, and producing any project Bo was involved in, and as we have seen, he had no idea what the heck he was doing. He made Ed Wood look like a genius.
If you ever get a chance, check out the "E True Hollywood Story" about Bo. They too blame John Derek for the fall of Bo's career.

I saw bits and pieces of it. She pretty much put her career on hold to care for her ailing husband. That's what I can remember but correct me if I'm wrong.
