When watching the opening sequence to the show yesterday, I saw something I'd never seen before. Underneath the usual "The Dick Van Dyke Show" lettering, were the words "Daytime Show". In all my years of watching reruns, I've never seen that. I wonder if the "daytime show" was placed in the opening sequence of one or two shows originally, or recently added by TVL, or what? It was just a little strange.

Speaking of weird...

I never really noticed it until my daughter pointed it out, this evening, watching "My blonde haired brunette", how Laura's blonde hair was obviously a wig, since it was so much shorter...then she came out with wet, half-dyed hair and it was longer and more straight. Sorry, but I just never noticed this before...:crazy:

Yes, I noticed that too. The DVD Show was, at one time, syndicated and shown during the day. (I forget when, exactly.) This could have been a copy of such a version. Why or how that would end up in the TV Land series is beyond me.

Hey "Pick" (LOL), I mean Pickles -
I'm doing my duty as a fan of the show to try to come up with a logical explanation and make the "goofs" go away. here it is:

When it was all blond, her hair was also teased and permed, thus lifting it above her shoulders. (Basically, what she lost in length, she gained in volume.)

I never noticed that before either, but just picturing Laura when she came out blonde, you're right! I wonder how come nobody noticed that before? :confused:

As for the "daytime show" thing, it probably was from daytime syndication. I think there used to be a law prohibiting having first-run episodes and syndicated episodes of the same show on. So what they'd do to get around that was, slightly change the title of the reruns.

I already mentioned that, Kristen.

I think this "daytime show" edition
was actually just before the show went into syndication. (I just remembered when I started really watching the show.) Right after
the show ended it's original run
they started showing it at 11:30
in the morning everyday on CBS.
Probably from about '67 to '70.
That was the "daytime show" and
I used to always watch it whenever
I missed school (and I missed a lot).
They used to show Gomer Pyle, after it ended its run, too. Only that
was at 4 in the afternoon. Didn't
have to skip school for that one...

I noticed on the last time through the first season on TV Land (before the one that just ended) that some first season eps aired w/ the Daytime DVD Show titles instead of the photo montage. Another visible difference, which I noticed before I read "The Daytime Dick Van Dyke Show", was the appearance of the actors' names on the bottom of the screen instead of having them read by the announcer. The DVD Show ran in daytime on CBS starting in the fall of 1965, so I'm sure CBS used the different titles to distinguish the shows from the nighttime shows, which were in their fifth and final season in CBS primetime.
Also, about Laura's hair in "My Blonde-Haired Brunette", it's most likely that MTM wore two different wigs, one blond and one two-toned, instead of having her hair colored, since the performance before a live audience would not have allowed time to color her actual hair. The wigs were probably just of different lengths.

:talk: I prefer an explanation that doesn't cross the plane between "TV world" and the viewer, such as the one I offered previously. This way, I have a chance to erase goofs/incongruities by providing a believable alternative (a.k.a. "nice save"). This can be a fun exercise. :idea: Try it next time you notice an error, or anything that doesn't seem to make sense, on a TV show (preferably a favorite of yours).
