Whenever I watch an episode with Robin Strasser as Dr. Elaine Tewksberry, my wife won't watch it. She thinks she was untalented with comedy and was sort of boring and annoying. Do you guys agree? Personally, I didn't think she was that funny, either. She seemed like she was trying to be funny, but wasn't succeeding. However, I do think she is dramatically talented, as she demonstrated all those years as Dorian Lord on "One Life to Live." What do you think?

I watched One Life to Live for many years, and I agree that Robin Strasser is a very talented dramatic actress. She plays evil quite well. Didn't she even gain her fortune by denying her rich eldery husband his medicine while he was having a heart attack about 25 years ago? I think it was her. Dorian and Vikki were great rivals.
I enjoy her on Coach. It's true that comedy isn't her forte, but to me, she's acting sort of like Dorian, and the comedy is how Hayden reacts to her.
So far, I've only seen her in a few episodes, so perhaps the audience felt the same as you and your wife Highloon.

I agree with your statement about Robin's contribution to Coach. There was still a contribution to be made, not necessarily because of Robin's comedic talent, but because of the comedic situations that resulted. The whole Miami fling and Elaine's bitterness about it did make for some fun moments. I don't know if you've seen the episode yet with basketball coach Terence Moses, but there's some good stuff there. The dialogue between Hayden and Elaine is so crisp that it succeeds even despite Robin's delivery, sometimes. Two great examples:

Hayden: "Well hello, Elaine. What a pleasant surprise."
Elaine: "Why, thank you. What a quick lie."
Hayden: "Thank YOU."

Hayden: "Elaine, it was five years ago. Are you really that crazy, or...was I that good?"

Elaine: "Don't flatter yourself. I'm that crazy."

BTW, if it bothers anybody that I keep sharing my favorite quotes, I'll back off a bit. I'm just having so much fun with y'all!

Don't be silly. I love reading them. You've got some memory though...or the scripts to the show. :)
I can't remember what I said this afternoon much less what they say on the show. Good for you.

Janice, I appreciate your comments. I'm glad you enjoy hearing the quotes. As far as memory goes, it's kind of like knowing the lyrics to your favorite songs. I've been watching these episodes over and over and over again for years. Plus as embarassing as it may be to admit, I've even made audio tapes of some of my favorites to listen to in the car. I'm too young to remember radio shows, but I figure it's kind of the same thing. Only instead of the Shadow and Amos and Andy, it's Hayden and Luther!

I think it's a great that you have your favorite shows on audio tapes. I listen to my parent's old comedy albums by Bill Cosby, Dean Martin, Don Rickles and some newer ones with Robin Williams and other comedians.
I've rarely seen an episode of Coach more than once, so that explains my uncertainty with matching certain quotes with the correct episodes.

I've always enjoyed Robin Strasser's work, but I agree that situation comedy just doesn't seem to be her forte. I REALLY wish I could've seen her work as Another World's first Rachel - she was one of TV's most hated villainesses at the time (late 60s-early 70s).
