¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 12-07-2002, 02:21 AM Shaws!! I love it there! (Chris ha). I actually just went on Wed. $189! :woohoo: Yeah, lol I like to brag about my foodshopping. I saved $58 with my coupons and Shaws Rewards Card. I am seriously a Coupon Queen lolol. I like Victory too though. Ugh, but I hate Market Basket/DeMoulas. That place is such a dump.
fr00ti 12-07-2002, 02:28 AM Well, I go to Bruno's and Food World. You dont have those on there. My fav in GA is Publix and Kroger. I miss them.:(

AnaheimPMWitch 12-07-2002, 04:18 AM that would be Fred Meyers for me (I get EVERYTHING there its sort of like Walmart but DARE I SAY Better)
Plata 12-07-2002, 04:46 AM I go grocery shopping at IGA with my mom and at Safeway with my dad. They live at different ends of town, so they shop at different grocery stores.
Juss Like Jo Po 12-07-2002, 10:30 AM I go shopping at Pathmark..we go there so much we know everyone by name!..lolz
Penny Lane 12-07-2002, 10:48 AM Meijer

Barnabas1 12-07-2002, 11:39 AM Harris Teeter and Lowe's foods
Kristina 12-07-2002, 11:43 AM Bell-Air and Safeway usually. I've never heard of not one of those stores anyone has listed...

Yep, Stop and Shop for me too. Once in a while, my mom will go to Big Y. Do you have those in Boston? They're around Springfield...
*MIBabe03* 12-07-2002, 11:56 AM Yeah we usually shop at Albertson's (I work there and it sucks!) and sometimes Kroger. I miss having a Meijer's though.
britt britt 12-07-2002, 12:01 PM I have never heard of any of those place, except for supervalu lol.

I hate Market Basket too. What makes it worse is that I also work at one. It's a horrible place, both for shopping and working.
Mysty Eyes 12-07-2002, 01:11 PM I shop at Vons.
It's part of the Safeway chain. I don't think that we have Safeway here anymore since the merger of the two, but many of the "store brand" items on the shelves have the Safeway name on them.

No Big Y in Boston. Of course we have the Big Dig, the most expensive, overbudget construction project in history going on.

dawsongirl 12-07-2002, 02:58 PM Super Target. Sometimes Fareway, but usually just for meat. Our Hy-Vee pisses me off. The damn aisles are too small and there's always some fat person or rude old lady standing right in the middle. And the whole place smells like cheese.
dawsongirl 12-07-2002, 03:00 PM Oh yeah, and I go to Cub too. I love it because you can sack your own groceries. That way some stupid clerk doesn't put the toilet bowl cleaner in with the bread. That's just disgusting!!
ABlairican Pie 12-07-2002, 03:42 PM I shop at Safeway here in Auburn (aka UltraLamefest), WA. I used to shop exclusively at QFC in Kent before I moved, where I was good buds with everyone there. I miss going there on a regular basis, but I do shop often there still. QFC merged with
Kroger, who owns Fred Meyer, a few years back. One clerk (btw, everyone at QFC calls me Bud Light Man!! )told me she used to work at Safeways in the area, and warned me not to eat Chinese food in their deli--"they scratch their butts and don't wash their hands, and the food is tainted..." :barf: Funny, bacause I liked eating there all the time... I wish QFC had a Chinese deli...
ILuvJoandBlair 12-07-2002, 08:17 PM We usually shop at Ralph's or Albertsons.
TVJunkie101 12-07-2002, 08:54 PM I've never even heard of half of those places you guys mentioned, LOL. (Except Albertsons and Target, and Big Lots)
Usually just Super Wal-Mart or Publix. Sometimes Sams Club.
Moonlight Lady 12-07-2002, 09:00 PM I go to Millers, it's owned by Hannaford though. We also have Price Chopper and Hannaford, We're supposed to be getting a SuperWalmart by the end of next year though. I miss Grand Union, too bad they went out of business.
#1_Nancy_McKeon 12-07-2002, 09:09 PM I haven't heard of more than half those stores.
The Grocery Stores around here are places like... Vons, Ralphs, Albertsons, Food-4-Less, Smart & Final, Costco, places like that. We also have a Super Wal-Mart and a Super K-Mart that are Grocery Stores also. Plus a few other places I'm not thinking of... I don't count places like Walgreens or Save On as places to go Grocery Shopping though. Oh, we also have a real good Health Food Type Store called Trader Joes...
We usually shop at either Vons, Smart & Final, or Albertsons. Sometimes all three and more in one day... haha
Fleet 12-07-2002, 09:34 PM I like Ralphs. Always have. This store goes back a long way- I think 1922.
Sometimes, I shop at Vons, too.
I am not fond of Albertsons. They don't open enough checkstands. Usually only two plus an express line... even during the busy afternoon hours.
~LadyJess~ 12-08-2002, 12:15 AM None of the above. I shop at Farmer Jack.

Shop and Shop
RainMan 12-08-2002, 11:06 AM I really haven't been out of state, and there is only ONE Albertson's in Iowa (It's in Des Moines, but never went), no Safeway, only ONE Save-A-Lot (Des Moines Also, and it's in the ghetto part of town), no Publix or Vons or Super Kmart Grocery, we mainly have Iowa based grocery stores here such as Hy-Vee, Fareway, Pac N Save (One in Carroll, IA, the other two are in Wayne and Seward, NE)
We have Super Targets in Iowa surprisingly and I hate them, ESPECIALLY Archer Farms....I went to get bread...cheapest I saw was 2 BUCKS!!!!! At fareway it's only 2 loaves for 89 cents!
I used to work at SuperValu in Jefferson, Iowa for about four months and every day after the first month I was working there was a complete hell. All the employees were a s s holes to me (and to my family) so I haven't been there since March 9, 2002, the day i left SuperValu.
I love Hy-Vee. though it is high priced, there are some good deals. My nearest Hy-Vee has a Pharmacy, Bank, Floral, Video Rental (Their selection really sux since they remodeled), Deli, Bakery, One Hour Photo, 12 checkouts, and automatic doors! The aisles are big and of course, it's next to Kmart :happyface .
But most of all, I love shopping at Fareway most. My local Fareway (Jefferson, Iowa) is the smallest Fareway in Iowa, go figure. It has an awesome meat department, and it's the only Fareway in Iowa to STILL have push button cash registers (the rest have scanners, Jefferson does not.) Fareway doesn't have any fancy things such as a Pharmacy, Floral, 24 hour stores, or bakeries, hell, they are closed on Sundays and Holidays (MON-SAT 8AM-9PM) but it has a good meat department. Everyone hates the meat department at Jim's (Back then I worked at SuperValu by day and Shopped fareway by night!) I was at Fareway on Friday and EVERY checkout was full and we had to wait about 20 minutes to be served (there's only four checkouts, and people do shop there a lot rather than SuperValu), and you should of seen Checkout 2, it was so busy people were backed up into aisle 10! But for the past two years they have been talking about getting a new store but I don't think that's gonna happen. I don't know whether I want them to get a new store or not!
More Later when my show is over...................

I understand that they were sisters with Osco Drug and closed with them. The on that is on Army Post Road should be abandoned still unless someone bought it.

  KMART is nice, but only the one in Londonderry because it started off as a BIG Kmart. All the other ones started off as the regular size so when they upgraded it just made it look... sloppy. All the things were new except for the floor and stuff- just didnt look right. I prefer Target.:D
Dude111 10-26-2022, 07:09 PM I picked Aldis but Kmart and Dollar General are good also.....
Yong Fang 10-27-2022, 09:18 AM If I was in my hometown of Memphis, basically at Kroger and Walmart. Plus there is another market with two locations that sells about 70 percent Hispanic and 30 percent East Asian/Chinese items and foods. Has an excellent meat and fish counter also. That place rules, and most of the staff are immigrants from Latin America and East Asia. The city and area are becoming much more "diversified" so there are more choices and more foreign markets.
Yong Fang 10-27-2022, 09:35 AM I read an article about the favorite supermarkets in all fifty states and it was interesting how geographic it was. There really isnt a national chain of one supermarket company. Publix rules Florida, Kroger has much of the Southeast (which wasnt one of the choices above), Hy-Vee in the Midwest and Albertson's in the West. There are many local chains, someone mentioned HEB in Texas. When I lived in Las Vegas, there was Ralph's, Vons and Lucky's.
However, the supermarket companies are expanding and encroaching on new territories in areas with established markets, probably with differing results. I do know back in the 1990's, Albertson's tried to push their way South, at least in Tennessee and Mississippi. Albertson's bought a local chain in Memphis, ran it awhile and then sold it and left. The Mississippi stores, the same thing. I think people dont want to change their habits of stores they shop in, plus I think in a supermarket one usually goes to, there is a familiarity with that store, and even the people who work there. "I have shopped in this market for twenty years, why would I want to go to another store?"
I have read that Kroger has bought a lot of regional stores and just kept the name and everything else without much changes except when needed. Goes back again that the consumer in the supermarkets like familiarity and not too much change.
Funny that the list doesnt have Kroger but the last store listed is Walgreens. Walgreens isnt a supermarket. It is basically a pharmacy and a convenience store. I love Walgreens. I joke "where else can one get Valium, beer, potato chips and condoms under one roof?"
GentlemanJim 10-27-2022, 02:37 PM I too found it peculiar that the list did not include Kroger.
Having moved around the country, there are quite a few names that I shopped when living in their regions.
When I grew up there were 2 locally owned chains that had about a dozen stores each, who dominated the market Plus Kroger (that was considered "dirty" or second rate) and A&P....the gold standard for marketing that pioneered many techniques that Walmart would eventually ride into the stratosphere.
Over time, Kroger managed to up their game, and became a dependable constant that I could rely upon ...in numerous states.
Now, what I find is that each chain has it's own loss leaders...bargains designed to get you in the door, so they can zing you on other items. SO, it pays to keep and encyclopedic register in mind what each store sells certain things for. And shop for the best deals.
I live very near a Kroger, so it's convenient for me to bop on over there just to cherry pick the few items they seem to undercut the market on.
Then, two "Big Box" chains, Walmart and Meijer I depend upon for the bulk of my needs. I'm not very big on store brands, I prefer the national banner brands.
And, then we have a few locally owned meat markets where I go to get better quality cuts of meat
howierules86 10-27-2022, 02:39 PM 1. Target
2. Publix
3. Wal-Mart
4. Kroger
