I've got news about the release of The Dick Van Dyke Show on DVD!! According to The Walnut Times website (http://www.thewalnuttimes.com), Time Life will be releasing a set of 10 best of DVD's with four eps each on 12/18/02!! I know this isn't what we were initially promised, but it's better than nothing.

I've got an e-mail in to the owner of the site asking for more info. I'll keep you all posted. :)

Thanks, Kristen!
Not at all what we'd hoped for, but as you said, better than nothing. I believe that if these sell well, Time-Life will go ahead and release the whole series. It just wouldn't make good sense not to.
I hope they're uncut and unedited, and in their original length. Wow, this is exciting!

I knew you guys would be as thrilled as I was to hear about this. I'm so proud I could be the one to tell you guys, usually I'm not the first to hear about stuff.

Anyway, I got an e-mail back from the guy who runs The Walnut Times website, and this is what he had to say about what episodes will be released:

"I do know, but am not at liberty to say…

What I can tell you is that I was asked to review the list of episodes considered (along with Vince Waldron, the man who wrote the DVDS book). So, we both were able to provide input and feedback about what we thought. For the most part, I think fans will be very pleased.

The available episodes will be listed on the website on December 18th, so stop back then and have a look."

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm marking Dec. 18 on my calendar!

The eighteen episodes will probably consist of the eighteen *favorite* episodes "of all time". I dont think they will be in order. Just a hunch. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that "Uhny Unfts" and the haunted cabin ep's are there, but I bet the walnut ep will be, since it was one of the highest rated ep's, I think. The pilot episode will probably be there, too, if my hunches prove out right. The thing is, if I *am* right about this hunch, this set will go from first favorites to last favorites and, if it sells well, *then* they may start in order. This is probably only a test marketing ploy, for now, to see how big the classic sit-com audience is for this particular show.

I dont know. Like I said, just a hunch.

Anyway, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys :) I dont have a DVD machine (I see theyre pretty cheap these days...maybe I'll get one some day), but I have some ep's on vhs for now. Guess that'll have to do for now  LOL So, have fun!:happyface

Good job, Kristen. Glad to hear about the pending release (quicker than I anticipated), but I still wish Doug could have given us info on his project before this release.

I don't want to buy this set and then hear from Doug that he's gonna be able to get his project done. But if he is at an impasse, and this is our only option, sobeit.

My only concern with this release, as I've said many times before, is that Time-Life is usually VERY PRICEY with all their merchandise. Just think, if they charge $25.00 a DVD, that's gonna be $250 for just 40 episodes!!!

Pickles,
You sound like the lady from, I believe it was episode #55, "I'm No Henry Waldon!," who's name I can't recall. When she was told that Rob was a writer for a popular television show, she remarked, "I don't own a television machine."
Anyway, concerning your plight, until this past Friday, I could say the same thing. Actually, I never really wanted one. As it turns out, I got a DVD player as a Chanukka present; and that was before I read the great news about DVD on DVD from Kristen! So now, I'll keep my fingers crossed for *you* for the next couple of weeks, assuming you celebrate Christmas. Miracles do happen.

I bought my DVD player last year at Christmas (when they first started becoming very cheap - under $100). And I must say I'm thrilled with it.

I highly recommend you get one. DVD releases are head & shoulders above VHS! With DVD you get so much extra content, and of course the DVD isn't gonna lose its quality over time like VHS tapes will.

Go ahead and get one now. Then you can get great DVD sets like this one and the Mary Tyler Moore Show 1st Season set. It's wll worth it, trust me!
