Do you supposrt their cause (trying to make TV 100% family-friendly) or do you think they are trying to push their moral values and beliefs on other people by censoring TV?

Personally, I do think that there should be some more family-friendly programming on TV, but I don't think we need to take all the sex and violence and other "immoral behaviors" off the TV just because some parents don't want their kids watching the stuff. Have they ever heard of the V-chip, or better yet, having the kiddies do something else besides sitting in front of the TV all the time?

I agree with ya, Kristen. More would be nice, but making it totally family-friendly would get annoying fast. What about people with no kids? Or older people whose kids have left the roost? And AMEN!!!! Make the kids read a book or something. It's not like it would hurt their brains any.

I think what theyre doing now is pretty good. Shows like Jerry Springer and NYPDBlue come with warnings.. if parents let their kids watch it- it aint my problem. Family shows are good for the earlier time slots while kids are still awake and the "adult" shows later in the evening. New shows dont have to be all family oriented- we have reruns (Disney, Nick & ABCFam air some good faily shows) where they can still be enjoyed. I dont like it when parents get too obsessed with stuff like this. It bugs me. Like now, a bunch of people are getting upset because of the new Barbie doll showing her belly.:rolleyes: Who cares!! I mean, kids take the clothes of anyways!! When I saw things like that when I was a little girl, it didnt plant thoughts into my head. 4 year old girls could care less.

I don't support them.I only go to their website because it's funny.Today's children are very different then the children of the 50's and 60's.Family Friendly is different for today's children.Non-family friendly is like full-frontal nudity.Talk about Sex is normal for today's children as is violence.Today's kids are just more mature than the one's of yesterday.

I do not have kids of my own, but I always wonder how parents manage their kid's viewing habits, because there is a lot of trash on TV.

If I had kids, I would either 1. not own a TV or 2. get TV Land (I currently don't have it), and similar stations with more of yesterday's TV.

I don't know enough about Parent's TV to comment on it. The only suggestion I have is any show with heavy sexual content be on in a later time slot.

Well, I think if you look far enough you'll prob. find something wrong with anything. The parents should be the ones that censor whatever the kids watch. Come on though, if you do watch new shows you'll either get sex jokes or violence. You can't escape from it unless you watch PBS or TVL.

I'd like to throw something else out that has been the topic of controversy since they were released. I'm talking about the Harry Potter books. I've read them, and I thought they were cute and funny books. I didn't get the urge to climb on a broomstick and ride around town turning people into warts. However, some people feel that the books send out the wrong message. People feel that witchcraft shouldn't be in the schools. I'm sorry, but you either pick it up and read it or not. It's pretty simple. Do I want to read this book? Yes. Do I want to read a book that talks about a kid going on a murder spree? No, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I have the right to push people to yank the murder book off the library shelf. It's my free choice not to read that book. Somebody else might want to read it though.

The Osbournes are another prime example. Some people might not want to hear Ozzy and the gang saying f*** in each sentence. Turn the channel then. If it offends you, turn the tv off. Don't take away someone elses free choice because something offends you. jmo

Some people think that the networks should change the channel for them. Those people are just f-ing lazy.

Ditto. When I was younger, I watched Jerry and stuff like that. And no, it didnt "brainwash" me and make me a killer. It was entertainment. If parents think that their kids are going to be killers from watching NYPDBlue or something than 1.Send the damn kids to bed, or 2.Dont let them watch it! Maybe, if parents took some RESPONSIBILITY with their children, they wouldnt have to complain about all the cencorship. Theyre too bored and need to get over it.

Parents, or legal guardians should be aware of their children's TV choices. However, programming should NOT be restricted for other members of the family who choose to view content deemed R-rated or above. The issues here are awarness of TV/movie choices and responsibility as a parent or guardian.

Most cable systems and satalite dish providers (if not all) offer password protection. If you have digital service you can block programming by rating, content, channel, or time period. Know your password pin# and write it down and keep it in a safe place if you use the blocking opition on your cable service.

Know the movie and TV Ratings as a parent: "G" means General Audiences. A lot of times sterotypically, it was associated with "kiddie film" but this simply means that the movie contains no objectionable material that parents would find objectionable for kids.

PG, Means Parental Guidence is suggested. Mild violence, some harsh language may be present, but the programming should still be OK for kids

PG-13, This gets into harsher material regarding language, sex, or violence. This says that kids under 13 should NOT see the film wothout parental or adult supervision. Parents should proceed with caution with younger kids here.

R means restricted Nobody is supposed to see this content under the age of 17 without a parent or guardian because language, sex, or violence will be graphically presented. It is unbelivable to me that theatre people have let kids as young as 4 years old into R rated movies! This is what bothers me, and to me, it's an issue of bad parenting. In fact, I would not allow anybody under 14 to see R rated films. But 4....5....and 6 years old? This is bad

NC-17: This is the new version of the old X-rated film. The X-rating was dropped many years ago, to eliminate the stereotype of all X-rated content associated itself with hard-core porn. NC-17 means that if you are under 17 years of age, you aren't allowed in, even if a parent or guardian is with you.

Now if theatre owners would abide by what the ratings are supposed to represent, society might begin to establish some control over movies that kids watch.

The ratings for TV should function in a way similar to the ratings of the movie indusry. (They are TVG, TVPG, TV14, and TVMA) The TV14 is similar to a PG-13 movie rating) TVMA is equivlant to an "R" movie rating). Parents should review these ratings and evaluate the program content responsiblly to help make informed viewing choices for themselves and their kids.
