Jaleel White should have spoken up and told producers that he should play a more serious role on family matters for good. And seeing White walk into a chamber and come out as Stephan was just too strange for me. The Urkel character should have gradually became a more mature young man instead of walking around as a adult with suspenders and that ******** voice. I honestly believe Jaleel White will never succeed in acting in a serious role because everyone is used to him being silly. Which leads me to believe that the show-Grown Ups on UPN was yanked off the air because people still think of Urkel. I think White may have to wait about 10 years before we can start taking him seriously on TV.

It was a job, he was getting payed, the character was popular, he became the entire show. Why complain? You wouldn't!

I just see me personally, as a young adult still playing the dorky role o Family Matters. I don't think it's a such thing as a grown nerd. So i think the show lost viewers as White became older and taller and still playing the role of Urkel. I know he regrets it now.

No matter how you look at it, Urkel was an over the top type of character. Jaleel White was destined to be type cast in that role no matter what. It sort of the same thing that happened with Gilligan, JJ Evans, Balki and so many other over the top characters.
