After 30 years, tonight we finally discovered that the Bradys live in Santa Monica (until they went to Washington in this movie). The original series was extremely vague about their location, implying, but never stating directly, that they lived in a Los Angeles suburb. The subsequent movies did say they lived somewhere in the LA area and this movie finally said exactly what town they live in. Not that important, I guess, but as a lifelong socal resident it was nice to see that bit of trivia cleared up.

Well... Yeah, I noticed that too. I live in Santa Monica. There aren't too many houses that style here; it's too spread out. Houses here have a tendency to be less "wide" than the Brady house. By that I mean, that instead of showing three sections of the house from the street, you see two sections. The houses tend to use more land behind the front section, or go to multiple stories. I dunno quite how to describe it. :confused:
(I know, I know... the Brady house was two-story. But that was just on the inside; the outside front 2nd-story window is fake.)

It could be Venice/Culver City, but the house is too new for those locations, and they too have a tendency to be less wide. The plot of land is too flat to be in hilly Pacific Palisades.

It's more likely to be in the San Fernando Valley somewhere.

The actual Brady house that is shown from the outside is in Studio City and of course there is no actual 4222 Clinton Ave. in Santa Monica, but remember, this is bradyland!

Yeah, yeah, I know... all things are possible in Bradyland. ;)

But it just kinda bugs me when a show names a community as their location, but has no true characteristics of the city. Watching the show never once made me think of a westside community. I always thought of the Valley.

Other shows that claimed to be in Santa Monica or other westside communities managed to portray the environment well enough. For instance, Three's Company was very true to S.M. and Saved By The Bell had a good feel for the westside. I think I recall S.M. being mentioned once or twice in that show, but I always pictured Pacific Palisades. But, westside is westside.

Bradys: very much a "Valley" feel for me.

Hmm... it's hard to imagine the Brady's being next door neighbors to Jack and Janet and Chrissy/Cindy/Teri.

I can relate to your point. I ditched the valley years ago for Long Beach. I always thought the Bradys were either in the valley or Orange County until Marcia said she was "Miss Santa Monica". But being out of step with the neighbors would seem to be consistent with the newer movie versions anyway.

But yea.. as soon as I heard Santa Monica, I was like..what???? Haha. Cause in the sequel Mike went to the LAPD.

In that movie Mike didn't know what decade he was in so he can be forgiven for forgetting what city he lives in.

Also, Santa Monica boundary is the ocean on one side and LA on three sides and many people who live in Santa Monica work in LA so they have to deal with the LAPD all the time, so Mike still could have made the LAPD comment even though he lived in Santa Monica.

When did Marcia ever say she was "Miss Santa Monica"? I don't recall hearing that in any episode.

Sherwood Schwartz did, however, state in his book Brady Brady Brady (cowritten w/ son Lloyd) that the Bradys did live in Santa Monica in order to shut up Robert Reed once. It seems that Mr. Reed thought it was unrealistic that a residential home could have a pay telephone (in Season 1's "Sorry, Right Number"), but S. Schwartz did his research and found that homes in Santa Monica could in fact have pay phones. Mr. Reed apparently found out this fact on his own as well, and as soon as S. Schwartz told him that the Bradys lived in Santa Monica, he said "Never mind!" and called off his complaint about this plot element.

The street the Brady'slive on was referred to as Clinton Way in some episodes and Clinton Avenue in others.

I always thought they lived in the San Fernando valley. Encino or Sherman Oaks to be exact! I live out here and driving down Ventura Blvd. around Encino and Sherman Oaks really has a Brady Bunch feel to it! Plus Marsha and esp. Jan really had the Valley girl accent! Also in the 60's and 70's the San Fernando Valley was a big deal. It was new, and suburban, beautiful homes. It was like the ideal place for upper middle class families to live.

What bugs me is that the house is supposed to be 2 stories plus an attic! From the looks of it outside, it is a one story house... and what is that room on the top of the stairs?

I live in the LA area now. But was born and raised back East. My family and I lived in a big, very old traditional colonial style home. As a child watching the Brady Bunch, that house FASINATED me. It still does in a way, watching reruns and moving away and living in more modern homes than where I grew up, I never really saw a house quite like the Brady's before. Esp. the staircase. That didn't seem like it belonged in a house for some reason! More like outside stairs going up to a walk up apartment or something!

Brady House today for the show producers added another story to the house.

I assumed they lived in Westdale, because of the high school name.

The establishing shot of the house really does have a valley vibe to it especially with the mountains in the background.
I always liked those rare scenes of the Bradys outdoors on some residential street outside the Paramount studio. For instance, the time Cousin Emma took them jogging, or one of the kids riding their bicycles. The neighborhood looks like the Hancock Park district of Los Angeles which is near Paramount Studios.
If they lived in Santa Monica, I would've expected them to show the beach at least once. Come to think of it, in the Variety Hour, they really did move into a beach house.
