Why does the sun go on shining
Why does the sea rush to shore
Don't they know it's the end of the world
'Cause you don't love me any more

Why do the birds go on singing
Why do the stars glow above
Don't they know it's the end of the world
It ended when I lost your love

I wake up in the morning and I wonder
Why everything's the same as it was
I can't understand, no, I can't understand
How life goes on the way it does

Why does my heart go on beating
Why do these eyes of mine cry
Don't they know it's the end of the world
It ended when you said goodbye

Why does my heart go on beating
Why do these eyes of mine cry
Don't they know it's the end of the world
It ended when you said goodbye

:( everytime i hear this, i get all sad cuz this is the song i heard when Brittany Murphy was shown dead! boo hoo hoo! i'm sad, cuz i'm listening to it right now!

Wow, at first I thought you wrote that. The lyrics are superb.

Gee, that's an oldie but goldie but for sure. I've always loved that song. The melody and the lyrics are so sad. The concept of the lyrics are interesting too--a person with a broken heart wondering how the world's going on despite her despair. The singer had the sweetest voice. I'm wondering if she had any other hits or was a one-hit wonder. The song is from the 60s I believe. I'll check it out.

Skeeter Davis sang it. The album, The End of the World, was released in 1963, but she did another version in 1969. I went to her website. She had many albums...lots of country music.

That song was on one of the Ally McBeal soundtracks. It's a cool song though.

Vonda Shepard can cover a song like nobody else. Her voice is remarkable. She could sing Mary Had a Little Lamb, and reduce me to tears.

I agree. I think I'm gonna get my Ally cds out later on today and listen to them. I haven't listened to them in awhile.

Ahhhhh! I love that song so much. It's from my favorite movie in the WHOLE world.... *this is when you look at my siggy* It's also one of my favorite songs. That and Petula Clark's "Downtown", which is also from that movie.

Ew...Brittany Murphy didn't look good when she was dead... her face was all swollen and purple.... poor Daisy. I want that cat though. That cat was the cutest cat I've ever seen...

This is a great song. As you said in your earlier post, Skeeter Davis has one of the sweetest voices around.

About 10 years ago, I was in Nashville, and caught a Saturday afternoon show at the Grand Ole' Opry. Skeeter Davis was one of the performers, and of course performed "End of the World". Although it was her only "pop" hit, she has been a fixture in Nashville for many years, and has had a number of songs on the Country charts. Her personality is as sweet as her voice. She is a truly nice lady, and a deeply religious person.

I'm confused... Brittany Murphy's dead? When did she die?

How nice you got to hear her sing in person. From the little research I did, she seems really nice.

I like her in other movies, she's one of my favorite actresses, but I did particularly enjoy her in Girl, Interrupted.
