I've had this problem for about five or more months now. I wake up at least four times a night. Just can't get comfortable, itching, hot, ... whatever... just can't sleep.

What do you do when you can't sleep? Is there anything to do to make you go back to sleep? I've heard that warm milk helps but just the thought sounds totally gross.

Warm milk is actually pretty good :)

But I either read, listen to music, come online, paint my nails.... I do anything really.

- Go on the net
- Watch TV
- do some homework... now that would REALLY put me to sleep, but, oh well.

I normally turn on the TV and put on a sleep timer and try to fall asleep to any sort of show, as long as it's not the news.

Well, I haven't had homework in two years but I know what you guys mean about that.

I just lose sleep and feel like a walking zombie at work. Not too fun.

Watch TV. Actually, once to help me fall asleep faster, I did this stretching routine sitting in bed. It calmed me down and helped me fall asleep faster. I usually just watch TV though.

I've also heard that closing all the windows in the house would put you to sleep faster. But, Im no sure if that's true.

I haven't had this problem for a long time but now that I have a TV and VCR in my room I can watch Mystery Science Theater 3000 and other shows until I doze. I usually fall asleep when watching TV at night.

That would be a good idea this time of year, anyway. Another thing that would probably help is closing the blinds so that you can't see outside. It makes it darker.

I turn and music and sing along. When I stop singing along, I know I'm too tired so I roll over onto my side and I'm asleep before I know it.

Well when i can't fall asleep, I read, watch tv, listen to music, and get online... If you haven't tried this already you might try drinking camomille( ****ty spelling sorry) tea.. That usually does the trick for me.

Chamomile.:D If thats wrong, Ill look like the biggest ass LOl. And frankly, no one should be in bed before 1235am!:p

But yea, make it as dark as possible. I also try having a constant sound like a fan. If its TOO quiet, I cant sleep.

I watch tv, but it has to be something non-stimulating like sitcoms. If I watch a documentary, the news, or a movie, it holds my interest and keeps me awake.
Reading in bed puts me out like a light.
When all else fails, I take a sleeping pill. ;)

I just lay there until I fall asleep. I daydream...well...I guess...nightdream??

Yea, so, NEwayz, that's what I do. If ur hot then try lowering the temperature in the house. Or lay perfectly still...that helps. We always turn the temperature REALLY low in the house at night and that helps us sleep. It's freezing in my room...but really comfy once in bed. Sometimes in summer when the house is just...not cold enough I haveta lay there w/o the blankets on till I get cold enough then pull em back on... I can't sleep w/o blankets on me...sheets...blanket...and comforter...it must all be there

My two cents.....

Don't do anything stimulating for at least 1/2 hr before bedtime. NO TV, NO COMPUTER, NO READING....

1/2 turkey sandwich (contains tryptophan, a natural sleep aid) and a half of glass of warm milk works

Turn the clock around so that you can't see it, clockwatchers have trouble falling asleep

Soft music... with no words

Don't read in bed, don't do homework in bed... the bed should remain for sleep (and when you're older sex) ONLY

The room should be no more than 70 degrees

(here's a biggie) NO CAFFEINE AFTER 2pm

Lay down and get comfortable... find a word or phrase that you find comforting... do the deep breathing thing (in for a count of 5... out for a count of 5), and repeat that phrase over and over in your head (the phrase is optional, but it keeps your mind from wandering to other things)

If you must use a sleep aid... Sleepy Time tea is great (so I'm told.. I hate tea)

Or (of course consult with an adult) Melatonin is a natural sleep aid (and for you vegetarians... they are 100% vegetarian, woohoo), but should still only be used short term

If you are a naturally ADHD type person... you could try the opposite... have a cup of good STRONG coffee 1/2 before bedtime, but unless you are a hyperactive person... I wouldn't recommend it unless you plan on spending the entire night wide awake, with frequent trips to the bathroom....

Okay, maybe it was more like 5 cents, but I hope something helps

Also I close my eyes (must have complete darkness), and count backwards from 500 like this: *breathe* 500. *breathe* 499 *breathe* 498 *breathe* and so on and so forth
