View Full Version : Craig T. Nelson's Mannerisms
Janice 11-30-2002, 03:45 AM Craig T. Nelson appears, to me, to make exaggerated hand and body movements. It usually happens when he's extremely frustrated or if he's trying really hard to get a point across. Sometimes, his body gets contorted or he lifts his leg up, or his hands become almost twisted. Lots of wrist action going on there.
This doesn't detract me from his acting as I think he's a very good actor as well as an extreme hottie. ;)
He's a large man, so that may explain some of it. It doesn't bother me, but I'm wondering if anyone else has ever noticed it?
peter may 11-30-2002, 05:38 AM Yeah, I've noticed it too!!
It's all part of his character as a grumpy, Mr Wilson type person, it was very funny in the episode "If Keith Jackson calls, Tell Him I'm at my Therapists" where he had the crazy twitch.
Coach is such a great show!:)

You're right. Coach is a great show. I'm puzzled as to why more people don't go crazy for the show. Perhaps they already saw it in its original run, or maybe it's the late time slot. Hopefully, the new 11pm slot will increase viewers.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed Coach's mannerisms. I swear sometimes the man is doing a Frankenstein impersonation.
highloon 11-30-2002, 03:07 PM You guys are right on about the gestures! I keep thinking about two scenes. First of all, remember the opening teaser when Dauber is pretending to be Hayden? After Kelly comes in and gets him to join her food co-op scheme, he proceeds to impersonate Hayden reacting to such an idea. He immediately starts in with the hand gestures and the stomping, until Hayden comes in and catches him!
Secondly, I will never forget Hayden's reaction at Judy's House when Howard's theatre group shows up singing Christmas carols. The instant he realizes they're there, he goes into a classic Hayden posture, as he crouches and freezes with fear! I love it!

LOL, that Dauber impersonation scene was hilarious. He had him down perfect. Hayden watching Dauber from behind was great...that look on his face, or as the Nick-at-Nite promos say, The Stare, lol.
After Dauber fakes shouting for coffee into the phone, Coach says, "You want a muffin with that?" Poor Dauber almost had a heart attack. It was just too funny.
I haven't seen the Christmas one at Judy's house yet, but I bet it'll be on in December. Hayden's one-liners to Judy are great, and she can give it right back.
Pisto Pete 12-07-2002, 03:41 AM yeah, I remember the christmas carol one, where he suddenly crouches, Coach is the most underrated show in syndication.
catlover79 09-14-2008, 11:40 PM I loved that Christmas episode. "You're not fooling me, Hayden - I know you're in there!!!" Actually, Hayden reminds me a lot of my dad. Dad loves this show even though he's not a football fan. Another thing my dad has in common - he and CTN were born the same year (although Mr. Nelson is several months older than Dad).
