View Full Version : Freddie at the comstock?
I apologize for such repitition here ghost stories and all. I am a Christian and i don't believe in ghosts but i was wondering if they still use the suite at the comstock that Freddie was living in and killed himself in? I don't know if it's even still around but if it is and they rent it out I wonder if there is an eerie feeling to the rooms(like unsolved mysteries)
I sure hope Freddie has better things to do then to haunt a hotel.
chicosladyfair 06-17-2001, 12:36 AM If I had the chance I would be very torn between wanting to stay in the room and not wanting to. I know that the Comestock is still there but it has been remodeled and I don't know for sure if it has the same name. You can see pictures of it on Croiter's site. Also, I can't remember where I read this but someone said they walked into the room several years ago because the door was open and it was eerie. Croiter might know where that article was.
Cheryl Harrell 06-17-2001, 02:09 AM I saw that article too... Strange...

Pitooey 06-17-2001, 10:05 AM Peko - I don't understand how Yoko could live there either.... She has to pass the spot where John died everytime she steps out of the apt. I would want to see the site at the Comstock though. I've always been a curious person. If I never see it than that's okay too.
chicosladyfair 06-17-2001, 12:50 PM I think the name of the site I saw that on was findadeath.com
It has a lot of info on The Comstock and I believe that's where I saw the article of someone walking into the room.
chicosfairlady.....I went to findadeath.com but it wouldn`t come up..I was very disappointed. I wonder if the room where Freddie shot him self would have a eerie feeling if you didn`t know what had happened there?
catcopy18 06-17-2001, 08:52 PM I wonder about that room at the Comstock quite a bit. I thought maybe that I had a morbid streak in me or something. I'd sure like to know someone who lives close by and could go check it out. Whether it's still named the Comstock or whatever, the room will always be there. I saw where John F.
Kennedy was assasinated in Texas and I really had an eerie feeling about that. Our minds can play weird tricks on us!
wheeeone 06-18-2001, 06:36 AM The Beverly Comstock Hotel is now called The Beverly Hills Plaza Hotel and is located at 10300 Wilshire Blvd, Beverly Hills, Ca 90024.
The phone number is 800-800-1234. It was renovated in 1997. It is an all-suite hotel with 1 and 2 bedroom suites.
catcopy18 06-18-2001, 04:30 PM Thank you very much wheeeone - you really came through with a lot of info that we asked for. Have you ever been inside it?
I'm sure they wouldn't want some nut calling up and asking "what room did Freddie Prinze
kill himself in" and "what ever became of that suite?" I'm sure many people have stayed there over the years that never even knew what had happened in that room. Then again, I bet many people tried to go there just to see what they could see or feel - don't you think?
atlangel 06-18-2001, 07:04 PM I was curious about the suite also. I wanted to go and visit to see if I would feel anything. I probably would just end up crying. Back in February of this year, I called them just to check the rates. The rooms are $550.00 per night!!!! Now I'm good, but I could not quite swing that!! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
Then I thought if I had a connection with someone that worked there, I would not mind paying them to let me in that suite for a short while. But I'm afraid they would just say, "Yes mam. Wait right here." Then they would call the men in the white coats to take me away.
Cheryl Harrell 06-18-2001, 08:38 PM Maybe you could tell them you were curious to see what it looked like because Freddie Prinze used to stay there. I'd love to see how it looks now... http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
If anyone on this board ever gets the opportunity to visit there I hope they share the experience.
chicosladyfair 06-19-2001, 12:33 AM If it's $550 per night, what say we all pick a date, split the cost and spend the night. I promise you, I'm not saying this to be funny...I think it would be a great way to get to know each other and fill our curiosity at the same time. Who knows what we might find out about ourselves and Freddie. Just a thought... http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Chica 06-19-2001, 12:49 AM Chicosladyfair...I'm up for that...Letz do it...letz all get together and get to know each other and spend a few days there...If we can get enuff people it wouldn't cost all that much...
Cheryl Harrell 06-19-2001, 02:29 AM I'd love to go. Unfortunately I can't go as it'd cost too many $$$ for me & my hubby to go all the way out to the west coast. Maybe ya'll can write about it on here & publish a story about it on one of the Freddie/CATM sites...
wheeeone 06-19-2001, 03:16 AM Hi Cat,
In reply to your question...yes I've been inside the Comstock back during the same time I had met Freddie when I was 15. Freddie did not live there at the time but I was visiting friends who were staying there. It was a favorite of quite a few celebrities back in the 70's because it was a small hotel, all suites (apartments back then is what they called them) and off the usual beaten path of "star-sighting" hotels. Even though it's listed as Beverly Hills, it really is on the border of Westwood. The Osmonds stayed there several times(during their heyday), the musical group "The Sylvers"- sang "Boogie Fever", rehearsed there in one of the outer conference rooms at the time, Gene Wilder stayed there and many other's. Those are the only ones I personally saw there but have known quite a few people who have stories about the Comstock.
I do not know which suite Freddie was in and wouldn't think anyone you could get on the phone would give you that info either as it is a first-class hotel now. You'd probably have to pump the housekeeping/maintenance staff for answers if any of them worked there back then.
Glad to help with info when I can....
Pitooey 06-19-2001, 08:46 AM WOW If anyone does go to the hotel Pleae share your experience with us..... Wheeone - Thanks again for sharing your experiences........
I'm confused here - some website I visited stated that Freddie shot himself at 865 Comstock Avenue, and they don't give the name of the hotel either! I wonder which hotel they are saying it is? Check it out here:

Chica 06-20-2001, 01:24 AM I just bought some stuff from a guy who lives on Wilshire~~SP~~ anyway..thats where the "comstock" was located according to Freddie's mother's book....Maybe I could ask this guy, because if I remember right he gave a suite in a hotel for an address!!!!
wheeeone 06-20-2001, 02:56 AM Peko,
The Beverly Comstock Hotel as it was called is located on the corner of Comstock and Wilshire Blvd. There are only residential buildings on Comstock(apartments, condos). I've seen the error on the Seeing Stars sight but remember that back then I was given the address as being Comstock also...it was something about it being on the corner and they did that for privacy reasons?? The name of the hotel is mentioned in the newspaper articles that were published in local papers after Freddie shot himself.
