Haven'ts -- 2, 9, 12, 13, 14, plus biff's comments--me too. About 20--only occasionally, now. A few providers, like the pest control company [termite inspection], still want a check or cash for payment.

I never had an internet connection at home until late 2016--I took care of internet stuff at work, or occasionally at the library (but even back then, never banking at the library).

I've never sent or received a fax. I had a printer that had a fax machine built in, but I never had the need to send or receive one directly myself.

I've never paid with a paper check because I've never had my own personal checking account.

I worked at McDonald’s when I was a teenager (this was the late ’90s). There was a manager’s desk and fax machine behind the grill area that was almost always unmanned, so some of us would goof around during down time and fax silly stuff — including weird drawings — to some of the other McDonald’s locations in town, and they’d fax silly stuff back to us.

In retrospect, it’s wild no one got fired for it. I don’t think we were even told to knock it off. There’s no way management wouldn’t have known what we were doing.

So yeah, I’ve sent and received faxes, but not productively.

Faxing continued at work (a large company) well into the 2010s. The principal use was faxing involving our medical plan.

Probably a risky process, even back then.

I worked in offices where I sent and recieved lots of business faxes. But yeah, like you did, my coworkers and I would goof around and send silly faxes and recieve them from friends who worked in other businesses /offices when our bosses weren't around.

That is the first thing that came to my dirty mind back in the day when I first heard of floppy discs. Floppy d*cks ! :crazy::lol::D

I remember the line from my H.S. chemistry teacher: "This is a floppy disk." It was the first time most of the class members had ever seen a PC. Opus has used the correct spelling of "disk" in this case; the original image uses "disc" incorrectly. Possibly a sign that a young person came up with the "How many for you?" thing, not knowing.

My older brother and I have used computer systems whose tech pre-dated even floppies. One of the early ones for students used punch cards: stand in line to have your cards punched, stand in a 2nd line to run the cards. "Rinse and repeat" (not literally) if there was an error. (Computers have long gone hand-in-hand with engineering, the Intro. to Engineering textbook I had was subtitled "Modeling and Computation.")

Fax Is Not Dead ?: Just a few years ago, I had to fill out an IRS informational tax form for an organization I belong to, and for some odd reason, the IRS insisted that the completed form be faxed to them.

So I had to go to a "FedEx Office" outlet to do that; I think it cost me around $4 to send. It would've been much easier if they'd have let me scan it and email it.

I learned my programming on the Abacus operating system.

I haven't sent faxes directly, but I had to go to services who provided it to send over documents. Sometimes my doctor's office would fax my records to another office for referral.



I wonder if anyone else had these... we had a Word Processor from mid-1990s through the early-2000s. It was pretty much in-between a typewriter and computer. The keyboard had a built-in disc drive and printer and the monitor was separate. It could do basic graphics. We had a model a little more modern than the one pictured here.

Not everyone had home computers then and I remember my mom did the artwork for the school flyers. Things like bats and pumpkins for Halloween or diplomas for graduation announcements, stuff like that. I also remember being one of the few to hand in typed homework assignments, like book reports. Majority of students still handed in loose leaf papers.
