View Full Version : Best ep of the series
Nedrta 11-28-2002, 04:53 PM The Christmas ep where the Castaways think they are going to be rescued by the Navy. And it turns out the Coast Guard (much to the Howells' dismay) is rescuing castaways on another island. Excellent use of flashbacks showing how they got marooned.
LucyFan 12-14-2002, 02:32 AM Hi ,
Although I haven't seen all of them, I think the best episode of the series is the episode where Gilligan gets chased by the Hunter. The episode number is #86 I believe.
BonniesLilCutiePie 12-16-2002, 11:16 AM "MATCHMAKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
gilligan fanatic 09-23-2005, 11:01 AM I am having a fun time reviving old threads:
I think the best episode of the series is The Little Dictator. It is not my favorite episode but for reasons Sherwood Schwartz gave on the commentary I think it realy is an important episode.
vashti1999 09-23-2005, 11:08 AM Since it's been revived...my favorite ep was with the Mosquitos (the rock band). My favorite part was when the girls performed as the Honeybees.
Céline 09-23-2005, 03:04 PM Goodbye Island!!!My favorite part is when Gilligan & the Skipper are stuck to the boat:Hilarious
Bonsai 09-24-2005, 01:02 AM This is a hard question for me because there are so many episodes that I love, but if I was forced to pick only one I think it would be a hard choice between "Pass the Vegetables, Please" and "The Producer." I also have a special place in my heart for "The Friendly Physician."
Here are my most favored eps:
"Wrongway Feldman," "Goodbye Island," "Three to Get Ready," "Smile, You're on Mars Camera," "Hi-Fi Gilligan," "Gilligan Gets Bugged," "Seer Gilligan," "The Friendly Physician," "V for Vitamins," "Meet the Meteor," "Up At Bat," "Pass the Vegetables, Please," "The Producer," "Voodoo," "Topsy-Turvy," "And Then There Were None," "Gilligan's Personal Magnetism," "Bang! Bang! Bang!"
When it comes right down to it, though, I like them all except "Erika Tiffany Smith to the Rescue," "Man with a Net," and "Take a Dare."
I can only narrow it to two.
"Hi-Fi Gilligan"
I love Gilligan's sacrifice when he's willing to get punched by the Skipper to revert to a radio receiver and the way the castaways eventually join Gilligan during the storm.
"Pass The Vegetables, Please"
It's the amazing score and some really funny writing that keeps it level with "Hi-Fi Gilligan" The opening moments when the Skipper joins Gilligan to do some fishing is classic to me.

those are my least favorite to beacause the guest stars were so selfish
GingerGilligan 09-24-2005, 11:15 PM OK, favorite eps:
1) Voodoo Something to Me - As far as Bob Denver is concerned, the less clothes, the better ;)
2) Goodbye Island - They are actually on a real beach, which looks like it might actually be on a real island! Also love Gilligan's talk with his reflection.
3) Water, Water, Everywhere - "My first corsage!" One of my favorite scenes in the whole series
4) My Fair Gilligan - There's so much going on in this episode and BOB GETS TO WEAR A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT CLOTHES!!!
5) Castaways Pictures Presents - I love the movie they made it looks like a rock video on MTV
6) Don't Bug the Mosquitoes - Love to see the generations clash and it shows that Gilligan is a GROOVY SAILOR
7) V for Vitamins - I love weird stuff and seeing Ginger and Gilligan kiss
I haven't seen my season 3 DVDs yet. (It's a long story).

Jack1000 09-27-2005, 12:46 PM Guys,
I love so many of them. But some of my favorites are:
The Friendly Physician
Pass The Vegatables Please
Hi-Fi Gilligan
Gilligan's Personal Magnetism
Also:
Any episode with headhunters is Classic!
I don't care for most of the episodes with dream sequences in them or special guest stars (The Mosquitos....not for me!)
When they are on the island and actually dealing with some realistic survival type conflicts, which is around 75% of the time, this series is AWESOME! The best episode when they are mostly off the island is The Friendly Physician! (One of my favorites!) But with the strong exception of "Up at Bat" (i.e Gilligan thinks he is becoming a vampire) I think that most of the dream sequence episodes take away from the storyline, sometimes too much

Munsters#1 09-27-2005, 01:23 PM I'd say they are all pretty good, each in their own way. But if I had to pick a favorite, I would say the episode where Skipper and Gilligan get blamed for wrecking the minnow, but later they find out that it wasn't their fault. It was because the weatherman read the wrong weather bulletin right before they sailed.
Jack1000 09-28-2005, 04:16 PM Oh Yea!!!
How can I forget, "Diamonds Are An Ape's Best Friend?!" The look on Gilligan's face when he is scarred by the Gorilla for the first time is priceless!!!

Steve Carras 10-01-2005, 01:27 AM Season I
HOW TO BE A HERO
Gilligan trying to be like the heroic Skipper-a important lesson in recognizing our little buddies's nobilities everywhere (and also I love hopw Howell seems to :"lust" over Mary ANn for once--"Cheesecake,pleasde", near the star of the episode)-On e of a handful of episodes remade by Filmation in the 1974 series.
THE RETURN OF WRONGWAY FELDMAN
Hans Conreid as the returning aviator provides many laughs of the
many laughs here--the catsways pretneding they're constructing there, and
Ginger making WF sick--by offering him a coffee brewed from FISH(!!!) that makes him try to return to civilization--so that they can get rescued (since authorities would look for his PLANE)
THE MATCHMAKER
The classic Mary Ann and Gilligan episode, remade in the 1970s Filmation animaitonm series
NEW NEIGHBOR SAM
Mel Blanc as a parrot and or or two gansgter voices and Herb Vigran as the leader (his is a very recogniable IMO "Porucpine;Pirckly" voice, used on many FLINTSTONES cartoons in 1960-1962 and too many radio and Tv shows to match, oftne with Blac and Backus)
PHYSICAL FATNESS
The Skipper being fat and trying to reduce for the navy (IF,they get RESCUED-hello) - a wonderful subject for a "Skipper" episode.
Season II
GILLIGAN'S MOTHER-IN LAW
The first color episode and guest starringa handful of castaways. "I'm NOT marrying that FAT native girl"(the Skipper, who doesn;t know GIlligan is suppsoed to marry her.)
THE LITTLE DICTATOR
Sherwood's favorite and one of mine..Nick at Nine broadcast iteeriyl enough oin 9/10/01---and you know what day was after that..very timely..the only case of a dream episode with a guest star otherwise alreayd appearing in it.
SMILE, YOU'RE ON MARS CAMERA
GREAT "Gilligan" ruins everything stuff..and NASA folks played by actors Booth Coleman & Arthur Peterson debating "CHICKEN people-what's that BIG BIRD MAN DOING to that LITTLE bird man..I guess he's tyring to make him go and lay an EGG!"-things like that felt that this described the show to the critics but it is classic..a "BIRD-brained" punchline..
CASTAWAYS PICTURES PRESENTS.
Lights! Spotlight! Action! The Castaways present a movie about 7 people on a island.,IOnly don'[t expect it in glorious color, sound or a swell picture or even in a pristien POSTIIVE print or...
QUICK! BEFORE IT SINKS
The island sinks but the Prof. shows how "dumb" both GIlligan (he re-adjusted the stick that he Prof. used to measure the lagoon, and the Prfoessor (who shows SURPRSING lack of scientific research here) are.
DONT BUG THE MPOSQUITOS
Great "Beatle" parodsy.
GILLIGAN GETS BUGGED
The mantis Cane's arrival..
NOT GUILTY
Like "Despaerte Housewives" catchphrase goes..EVERYONE has a LITRLE dirty laundry..even the seven stranded castaways. Do they know each other well? Is one of them guilty?
THE POSTMAN COMETH
Mary ANn's spotlight, as she poines for Horace Higebothem (sp?) and YOUNG Dr.YOung and Zorba Gillespie (BEN CASEY & KILDARE's two consusltants mixed coustery Jim Backus>>)-in and hass anightmare about a hospital..
GILLIGAN'S LIVING DOLL
The Robot episode. The riobot (Charles Maxwell and Bob D'Arcy) repeat everything anyone says at first.
SEER GILLIGAN
Would you like to read minds..if you read my mind..
LOVE ME LOVE MY SKIPPER
A great fable about jumping to conclusions.
WILL THE REAL MR HOWELL PLEASE STAND UP
First double-episode.
Great Backus ad-libs..
FEED THE KITTY
Not to be confused with cartoon director Chuck Jones's 1952 cartoom, IMO one of his very last great ones, this is - not LION - a real roarin g jungle episode.
GHOST A GO GO
Richard Kiel, big character "heavy" plays a ghost with a wlakie talkie (a spy, actually).
THE FRIENDLY PHYSCIAN
The gang gets off the island-Vito Scotti (also doing this bit on the ADDMANS FAMILY) plays a wild scientist,Dr.Boris Balkinoff, Mike Mazurk, stuntman as the henchman. The stock shot of the castle of Dr.B. a la THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM [1961] w/Vincent Price and the spooky music scared the garbage out of me.
V FOR VITAMINS
great "Jacka and the beanstalk" episode and the castaways playing storybook roles, and some more "Gerlad Fried/Morton Stevens" cues here (the two alternated on screen shairng the same cues..)
MEET THE METEOR
...and get ready to be blasted,. OR at least aged.
SEASON III
PASS THE VEGATBLES
You'll never gho hungry.
THE PRODUCER
Phil Silvers as Harold hecuba. Music by7 Morton Stevens is the one-off credit here..Directed by two directors Ida Lupino (herself a major radio/stage/.movie/TV actress way bakc in the day) and George M.Chaan (Credits placed sim ilair to Hanna-barbera's Produced and Directed by... credits) Carmen meets Hamlet.
HAIR TOFDAY
(Now playing..) SKipper knew how to be predicitbale..when he was right about his buddy being olds before his time bbut no one ever even predicted baldness.
THE HUNTER
Rory Calhound hunting Gilligan..- some 3 minutes restored (Note my post in SEASON 3 thread)
THE PIGEON
Sterling Holloway as the kndly prsiner.. Gerlad Fried returns to being credited after a while aroudn the time..
Some toehrs..I gotta take a bath..and I don't need bambboo pipes a la OPERATION: STEAM HEAT.
Flying Dutchman 10-03-2005, 01:36 PM I do not have the dvd sets so i do not know the name of the episode but it was the one where a jetpack washed ashore and gilligan got to fly it in hopes of being seen by the ships that were looking for the lost pack.
SKIPPER----You mean that really does belong to buck rogers?
PROFESSOR---No but its a jet powered flight pack and its pratically full of fuel.
Céline 10-03-2005, 04:58 PM The title of the ep is:It's a bird,it's a plane,it's Gilligan!
Steve Carras 10-06-2005, 01:48 AM I do not have the dvd sets so i do not know the name of the episode but it was the one where a jetpack washed ashore and gilligan got to fly it in hopes of being seen by the ships that were looking for the lost pack.
SKIPPER----You mean that really does belong to buck rogers?
PROFESSOR---No but its a jet powered flight pack and its pratically full of fuel.
IT'S A BIRD..IT'S A PLANE....IT'S GILLIGAN (1967).
[to Gilligan]
Professor or Skipper: "You were the UFO they were talking about!"
Mary Ann: "Yeah, they saw a flying object around and thought that it was a MAN from MARS or something?"(to the best of memory)
Gilligan to everyone: "Well if I'm a UFO which planet do I come from?"
Skipper: "All depends on far I have to CHASE you!"
(I love that music underneath, composed IIRC by Morton Stevens orig.,for the "Admiral Beaseley" (John McGiver) episode (MAN WITH A NET) and used quite frequently, a quiet, pleasant series of tropic flute swoops underneath the characters in many of these later episodes (the last part of the final act, before the tag of the 1/16/67 episode., THE HUNTER , and a few others ended with it in the early months of 1967 as the show wrapped up.-Edited on 10/05/2005.)
Chick Hearn is in this and a few others (remember those innocent days fo REAL great basketballs stars, pre-Kobe and Jordan?)
Rich3 10-10-2005, 11:27 PM "The Mosquitos"
"Dracula"
There's so many that when I started to list more it was just too many to mention.
There are a handful of ep's I don't like, but unfortunately they are far outnumbered by good. One was the Christmas one. Not that it was bad, I just didn't enjoy the tropical atmosphere for that kind of show.
Zoneboy 10-11-2005, 04:10 AM My favorite has to be the episode where Gilligan reeled in the crate of radioactive vegetable seeds.
