View Full Version : The Greatest First Episode
Adamantium 11-27-2002, 10:38 PM In your opinion, what series has the greatest first episode. Also, what series has the greatest last episode. Mine are:
First:
-"NewsRadio" (1995, "Pilot")
This episode introduced us to the staff of WNYX, in a brilliant and hilarious way. The rest of the series lived up to this first episode.
Also:
-"Wings" (1990, "Legacy")
This episode did a great job of bringing Joe and Brian Hackett together and letting the audience care for the characters.
Last:
-"The Odd Couple" (1975, "Felix Remarries")
This episode ended the living arrangement of Oscar and Felix, with Felix finally remarrying his ex-wife, Gloria. I like last episodes to bring closure.
Also:
-"Happy Days" (1984, "Passage (pt.II)")
This episode ties with The Odd Couple, simply due to the last scene, in which Howard is giving his speech, with the whole family there. Then a montage of memories follows.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, what series had a terrible first episode, but the rest of the show is good.
-"Perfect Strangers" (1986, "Knock, Knock, Who's There?")
The episode really wasn't that funny at all. However, Perfect Strangers is one of my favorite shows.

1. The Waltons
2. The Wonder Years
Best last episodes:
can't think of any
Worst first episodes:
can't think of any, at least not of any show I religiously watched
Worst last episodes:
1. The Wonder Years - the worst end to a good show--Kevin lost his car gambling. The show ended way too soon IMHO.
2. The Brady Bunch - I may be a huge fan, but I didn't care for the finale. Forget Robert Reed's absence--Oliver saying the word "s*x" was totally uncalled for IMHO.

Sitcomwriter 11-30-2002, 11:50 PM The WORST 1st episode to a great show would have to be "Curb Your Enthusiasm".It was boring and stupid. The rest of the series was (and is) SO much better!
WRKP had a wonderful first episode.
The pilot of Brooklyn Bridge was very good.
Taxi with the hiring of Elaine as a good first episode that gave you an immediate feel for all the characters.
Newhart is far ahead of anything else as far as last episode. Perfect ending.:)

Fern, I completely agree with you about WKRP, Taxi, and Newhart.
I've never seen an episode of Brooklyn Bridge, so I can't comment one way or the other about that one.
