Power Rangers Turbo (1997) is the season a lot of fans quietly call the low point. The movie that launched it made just $9.6 million two years after the first Power Rangers movie made $66.4 million. Ratings had been sliding since Zeo as Dragon Ball Z and Pokιmon pulled kids away. Mid-season, the show did the unthinkable: in "Passing the Torch," it retired its entire veteran team Tommy, Adam, Tanya, and Kat and handed the franchise to four unknowns (T.J., Carlos, Ashley, Cassie) plus a 12-year-old Blue Ranger, Justin.
And the one man who might have steadied that sinking ship Jason Lee Scott, the original Red Ranger, the leader who started it all wasn't there. His only Turbo-era appearance was the prologue movie, as a powerless, brainwashed hostage the Rangers had to rescue. His only powered return after Mighty Morphin was the Zeo Gold Ranger, whose powers drained his life force.
So this is the timeline we never got: what if Jason morphed back one more time as the Red Turbo Ranger, to lead? A veteran anchor against the campy Divatox. The passing of the torch to T.J. the first African-American Red Ranger done by the founder's own hands. Could Jason have saved Turbo?
