View Full Version : Can someone explain the relationship beween Archie and Lionel
TVFactFan 11-27-2002, 01:28 AM I have not followed AITF from the first episode but i have seen many episodes with Lionel. It was always funny one how Archie disliked George Jefferson but always got along with Lionel very well. Archie actually got along better with Lionel than he did with George and Louise. So can someone tell me why Archie liked Lionel? I also think Archie liked Lionel more than Mike.
Moonlight Lady 11-27-2002, 11:12 AM I'd say that it's because Lionel was polite with Archie and humored him. I believe there was one time when he stood up to Archie and that was the episode where Archie's niece, Linda, was visiting. Even then, Lionel never yelled, or even raised his voice.
That's probably why Archie liked him.

Yeah Lionel defintely wasn't as short-tempered as George

Good answer.
Off topic: The first Lionel on The Jeffersons rocked, but I hated that second Lionel. Did anybody like the 2nd one?

Yes the second Lionel was horrible. The first Lionel was always funny, i enjoyed his scenes with Archie.

I loved the scenes with Archie too. You know how the first Lionel acted. He kind of had that funny sarcastic wit. The second Lionel was lacking in all departments. jmo
Moonlight Lady 11-28-2002, 09:20 PM I didn't like the 2nd Lionel either. He didn't have much of a personality, IMO. The 1st Lionel alot better.

No I thought the second one was too dramatic and he seemed to not fit in to the scheme of the show. I thought him and Belinda Tolbert, Jenny Willis, was not compatible. I thought her and Mike Evans was much more compatible on screen. Too bad his return to the Jeffersons did not last long.

the second Lionel was a nerd.
ThomasE 12-05-2002, 12:16 AM I preferred the first one as well.
Brian 12-05-2002, 01:27 AM Doesn't it seem like everyone always likes the originals better than the replacements? I liked the first Lionel better, too.

The same thing goes for the first Darrin on Bewitched. I like him much better than Darrin 2.
Robert Tilton 12-08-2002, 06:36 PM The key to the Lionel/Archie relationship is that Lionel used to put him on all the time and Archie could never catch on. But I think Archie liked him, though Bunker wasn't 'Buddy Buddy' with The Jeffersons (well George and Henry anyway).

Yeah i always noticed that Archie would be a little nicer to Lionel rather than Louise, George and Henry. I'm actually hooked on AITF now because at 2am in the morning it is nothing else on and the show has my attention now.

I can't even imagine the 2nd Lionel in a scene with Archie-LOL
Tweety 09-14-2003, 07:56 PM I don't think Archie minded blacks too much, as long as they were submissive and polite around him...Lionel certainly acted that way, even though he was putting Archie on...
George and Louise were anything BUT submissive around Archie...
Good points, everyone...
