The original rock star of the 80's had a few words to say after she saw Avril Lavigne on the cover for Rolling Stone's Women In Rock issue.

She sent this letter to Rolling Stone, but the editors refused include it in the "Correspondence..." section. So she decided to put it on her official website.

Here's what she said:

Avril Lavigne gets some studded accessories from Hot Topic so now she's "upholding the brazen tradition of teenage outrage"???!! Are you SERIOUS? WHO CARES. She's a Spice Girl reject...but I digress.

Actually, they cant be put into a genre anymore. Their first 3 albums were ska/rock...now, its all gone to hell, since they've all gotten older. If they are considered "Reggae pop" they wouldnt be still being played on modern rock stations. And actually, Gwen stefani does not dress like britney spears. I don't "hate" Avril. Her music isn't half bad, but it's her I dislike. lol. She is so stupid. I'm only about 4 1/2 years older than her. But, I have been familiar with both the Pistols and Bowie, and no... it wasn't because my parents were fans or something (my parents are more Elvis, Simon And Garfunkel, Barbra Streisand fans), but I have always paid attention to music, old and new. To use being 19 as an excuse to not know who they are is not an excuse, because I know a lot of teens who love the Sex Pistols. And I also know plenty of people between 18-23 who are Bowie fans.

while I have to admit Avril is probably better than most of the crap on MTV and radio today. I just don't see what is so "rock" about her. I've heard her album, and it does have a lot of catchy pop-rock numbers, but I feel for the youth of today if she is a "rock chick". She doesn't rock nearly as hard as Joan, Pat or Heart did in their heydays. I feel sorry for the kids of today who think she embodies a "female rocker" when IMO, she is more of a pop artist with guitars
