I know most people I talk to hate cast changes, but I happen to love shows with cast changes. To me, I like the change in the show. I like to watch episodes that most people don't. For example, I love watching the post-Richie episodes of "Happy Days". What do you think about cast changes?

I guess it all depends on how the character is introduced, but as the norm, I don't really like them.

I'll add a big ditto to that!

Um, some cast changes are good but some aren't so good. It's just according to how they do the character. Some people may agree the character or actor/actress is good, but others might disagree. Take Andy from FOL for instance. Some people hate the Andy character, but I liked him. The point that does suck is when you replace somebody, for instance Dick Sergent replacing Dick York. It would've been the same thing if somebody replaced Lisa Whelchel on FOL. It would've sucked because people are so used to seeing Lisa and I was used to seeing Dick York. Dick Y was a better actor imo, but whatever. People may agree with me and some people may disagree with me.

puke: Richie-less episodes!!! *shivers* LOl. Me, being the big "old school" Happy Days fan, am insulted to watch the post 80s episode. Yeah, I admit, I watch them anyways...and LAUGH! LOl.

As for Darrin #2.. I think hes the one cast change I accept the most. York was SO much better, but Sargeant wasnt as bad I expected. But, I also prefer the BW over the color too.

One of the few cast changes I like is when Rebecca came to Cheers. I think Dianne was a crucial part of the show, but I like Rebecca just as much and enjoy watching the Cheers episodes that include her.

I didn't mind Al when he replaced Arnold in Happy Days. Although I think I preferred Arnold, Al was a decent character.

And then, there was the best cast change of all. Facts of Life, season 1 to season 2. That's when one of my all time favorite sitcom characters, Jo, came to the show!

Of course, this is all just my opinion.

Sometimes it depends on what the character makes of the show, how they fit in with the rest of the characters, say if a character was replaced, they want the replacement to go un-noticed, if you can't see a difference, the replacement seems to be acting like they belong with the rest of the characters, or blend in with them. Usually replacements or a good part of the show and sometimes they aren't. If they add something to the show like comedy or talent to the show. The show will definately bring some interest, but mostly characters fail to do just that, and the show drops in ratings and goes down-hill, it all depends on how the replacements fit into the show.

When they do that on a long time show I hate it. Like Family Matters, I love Harriett #1 and then right before the show ended they changed Harriett with that horrible actress to play her, I hated it.

Also Dick Sargent wasn't that bad!!!!!!!! He played Darrin ok in Bewitched. Just my opinion.

In Cheers Rebecca replacing Diane was a good thing, but John Lovitz replacing Phil Hartman was a bad thing.

It all basically depends on the show..

I think that it depends on the character, the show, and the actors involved.

MASH, for instance, always had good acting (and writing) so that the cast changes were fine for me.

Sometimes the change in cast allows the show to go in a different direction, whether it be minor or major. One case in point: The Facts Of Life had way too many characters in the beginning. Once the numbers were reduced they were able to develop more cohesiveness in the series.

Happy Days: I was okay with Richie being gone, though I liked it better with him in there. What I didn't like was when they introduced a LOT of new characters (at the high school, for instance); characters that I didn't know nor cared to learn about. And I didn't much like Ashley. I loved Heather; couldn't stand the mother.

A new actor in the same role can sometimes be annoying, but not always.

[ SARCASM ] Well, you're in luck. [ / SARCASM ] The NotHarriett episodes are airing on TBS now (or maybe it was just a holiday episode?) I was flipping through the channels today and saw her. I stopped watching the show when the new woman came along, and never saw her. No offense to the actress, but she was NOT Harriett.

I thought it might've been the last episode because of the whole Urkel in Space thing.

The "new" Harriette was ditzy if I remember correctly and Harriette wasn't met to be a ditzy character! They might as well have killed her off and have Carl re-marry!

I generally like cast changes in shows. They don't bother me that much because it adds flavor to the show and gives you more memory of the show.

well, it's not realy a same character-different actor fill in, but I didn't like Terri when she took in Cindy's, or Cindy when she took Chrissy's place either on TC.
