View Full Version : Song that reminds you of High School years
GoldenTV 07-04-2026, 06:45 AM Is there a song that when playing immediately remind of period when you were in high school. Maybe a song heard in school parties, on prom night or on the car radio when commuting to school.
Mine is this song that back then I heard frequently on the car radio when commuting to high school in the mornings.

I was in theater all four years of high school. Freshman year, the guy who was in charge of the auditorium’s sound system was always blasting his Sixteen Stone (Bush) CD (which at that point had been released more than a year prior) through the speakers.
Not sure why that’s such a sense memory for me, because I’m not even into Bush. I don’t hate them, but I can only count on two hands the amount of times I’ve listened to them on purpose in the past 30 years — and it’s always something from their first two albums.

GoldenTV 07-05-2026, 08:42 PM Thanks guys. I think I can guess the year you were in high school by the song listing. Lets see if I am right :)

I say you were in high school in late 70s or early 80's. The song by Peter Frampton "Baby, I Love Your Way" (live version) was a big hit in high school parties back in those days.
Teach Your Children - Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
I would say late 70's was your HS period. Excellent song and group by the way, especially the period with the Young as a band member.
Dream on - Aerosmith
Dust in the wind - Kansas
Definitely late 70's for you as a high schooler since I know how old you are :D. Those song were in extreme rotation on FM radio song line up back then, so no surprise the association.

Would say you were HS in late 80's or early 90's. Music the guy who was in charge of the auditorium’s sound system was playing indicate the shift of listener music taste from 80's music to 90's music with more hard edge Rock music. And I can see that in your music selection.
If You Leave by Orchestral Manouevres In The Dark, and Don't You Forget About Me by Simple Minds.
Mid to late 80's was probably the year you were in high school. Simple Minds is one of my favorite group and that song (from the film Breakfast Club) propel them to mainstream music scene.

Good variety selections of music from around the year 2000. During that period, RAP/HipHop and Grunge Rock were dominating the music chart and I can hear the influence from those genres in your High school song selection. Also from that period we saw white artists such as Eminem, Beastie Boys and Vanilla Ice doing RAP and Hip-Hop influenced music.

I was going to cheat and look up the release date for Sixteen Stone (Bush) album since you said it was released a year prior to your freshman year, but didn't and just guess the year you were in high school. So you can say my guess had 30% margin of error :D

JO Sweet Heart 07-07-2026, 06:55 PM The fall of 1996 is when I started high school and so all country songs from then until late spring of 2000 takes me back to my high school days.
God bless you always!!!

MrCleveland 07-10-2026, 02:07 PM I didn't have that great high school life (I was homeschooled)...but songs from the 1960's to the 1990's keep going through my mind during those four years.
Zoneboy 07-10-2026, 03:09 PM Way too many favorites to list and some of these were released during my 8th grade year, but were still popular when I started high school.

The intro probably have one of more memorable and recognizable opening beat in a song. Definitely a memory reminder.

Its probably me, but anytime I watch a Metallica video, the drummer Lars Ulrich seem to be "trying too hard" to play drums. Or playing too theatrically and dramatically might be a better description as some people describe him as better performer than a drummer. I agree with the former :)
