By 1956, Orson Welles was the "Boy Wonder" who had bankrupted RKO. Desi Arnaz was the "Conga King" building the most powerful television empire in the world, Desilu. When these two titans collided, the result wasn't just a Peabody Award-winning masterpiece—it was almost a homicide.

In this episode of Weird Showbiz History, we dive into the dry, dramatic, and entirely accurate account of how Orson Welles ran up a $100,000 liquor tab, charged sex workers to a Desilu credit card, and spent three months "freeloading" in Palm Springs.

It all culminated in a drunken, midnight desert drive where Desi Arnaz decided he’d had enough of Orson’s tailored suits and empty promises. Armed with a .38 revolver and a very specific ultimatum, Desi gave Orson the most effective writing deadline in history.

Based on a story by the Legendary Ron Friedman.
