View Full Version : Favorite Archie and Gloria moment mstewart 11-26-2002, 03:47 AM What is your favorite Archie and Gloria moment? Moonlight Lady 11-26-2002, 10:47 AM Gloria's 2nd pregnancy, Mike stormed out and hadn't come home yet. The scene was Gloria was sitting on Archie's lap and they were having a heart to heart talk. That was a great scene. I also like the scene where they're talking about Beverly LaSalle after he died. I like those too. Another one was Gloria's first pregnancy and when Gloria lost the baby. Archie with that teddy bear and the talk with Gloria always sends me into tears. Moonlight Lady 11-27-2002, 11:00 AM Yeah, that one was very sweet and touching. It just goes to show you, No matter how old she is, Gloria's his little girl. :) Brad Russ 11-28-2002, 08:05 AM Oh man, there's so so many great moments to choose from, but my favorite would have to be when there moving to California, and Gloria tells Archie that she loves him as tears are pouring down her face and the two embrace. Oh my goodness I usually can't even look at the screen during that scene, it gets me way too emotional. I cry my eyes out during the Mike and Archie exchange towards the end of the episode. mstewart 11-28-2002, 11:39 PM Here is my response for the discussion I started. On Monday I watched the 20th Anniversary Special. I was emotionally worked up on two particular episodes when Archie and Gloria had a special moment: Gloria's first preganancy when she miscarried and Archie came in the room to comfort her. The deep unspoken bond between those two came across the screen very well on that especially when she told him that she loves him and he feels the same. That clip alone brought me to tears. When Mike and Gloria left for California and when she looked at Archie I was in tears and it was an emotional scene. You can tell there was a deep bond between Carroll O'Connor and Sally Struthers and it came across the screen. The episode when she was pregnant the second time when Mike stormed out of the house. Archie had her on his lap and that was touching and powerful. Personally those scenes were emotionally powerful and helped the show move in and gave a deeper dimension of Gloria that I wish would had been explored more. But yeah I actually get even more worked up during the Mike and Archie scene then I do with his scene with Gloria. I think what made that moment so special was that for the 7 years Mike and Archie had been on the show together you saw very few moments like this. The only other one I can think of that even came close was the episode when they were locked in the store room together. That was a very emotional one. But in all honesty I don't think the writers could have done a better send off for Mike and Gloria. It was perfect in every way. Don't worry, you did the quote function right. :) You know, I'm starting to really wish that episode ended the show. I think the show just took a flying leap downwards during the Stephanie year. I like Stephanie on ABP, but I'm just not impressed with the episodes of ABP I've seen so far. I can't judge fairly because I haven't seen every ep. of ABP. Maybe we could've even had a reunion movie in the 90s if they had left ABP alone. Edith wouldn't of died. I guess we can't have that reunion movie now because of Carroll's death. It's Carroll as Archie or we don't have a reunion at all. Someone posted something a few months ago about a reunion movie between Stephanie, Gloria and Mike. I think that's how they worded it. I just can't see that reunion happening either because the movie would've killed off the Archie character. I agree, I think the first 7 seasons were definitely the best as well. It probably would have been better if they would have ended it there. Although I did enjoy the final season with Stephanie, it wasn't quite up to the shows usual standards. I thought Stephanie was cute, and there were a few good episodes in the final season like Stephanie's conversion, and too good Edith which is one of my favorites in the entire series. But ending it with the Stivic's go west would have been a perfect farewell. I don't think a reunion with the three of them would be very good either. Unless it was a reality type reunion where the shows cast, Jean Stapleton included would get together and talk about some of their best memories of the show. Although this has been done before I think it would be cool for them to possibly go more in depth about there memories of the show. The reason I don't think a reunion with the characters of Stephanie, and Mike & Gloria would work is because with ABP included I think those three characters were only in a few episodes together, and I don't think the chemistry would be there. Plus as you said nobody would buy a AITF reunion without Archie, and Edith. Anyway, sorry I got off the original subject. AITF & ABP ROCK!! 11-29-2002, 05:26 PM I don't understand why most of the AITF fans out there hate the 9th season of AITF, I understand that most people loved the characters of Mike & Gloria because of thier conflicts with Archie, but all I have to say is "deal with it". I personally think this was a great season with the exception of a few episodes. And also don't forget that the 9th season came in at #9 in the year - end ratings and that Carroll O'Connor and Sally Struthers took home Emmy Awards for that season. Well, this is how I feel about the last season of AITF. I'm not sure if the other fans agree with me, but here goes. Carroll, Jean, Sally, and Rob had this sort of chemistry together. They played off each other. They (all) could make me laugh one episode and then cry my eyes out the next episode because of the closeness of the characters. I laugh whenever Archie and Mike have some sort of fight, but whenever they have moments where the fights end and you see that in truth Mike and Archie influenced one another. Man, this is really hard to explain. It's kind of like FOL. You know how in the beginning, Blair was this snobby girl and Jo was the street knowing rebel? Look at how both turned out in the end. Blair and Jo changed each other for the best. Even though we didn't exactly see Mike and Archie changing each other for the best all of the time, we did catch a glimpse when they showed true love for each other. When Mike and Gloria left, it took it all away from me. We wouldn't see anymore Mike and Archie fights. We wouldn't see anymore heartfelt moments between them. That was it. Stephanie showed up and she did provide some comedic moments, but compared to the original gang she didn't have that sort of chemistry with the characters. (When I say chemistry, refer to the top of this post to see how I'm explaining this sort of relationship between the gang) Brad Russ 11-30-2002, 03:38 AM I thought of another kind of sappy Archie/Gloria moment. In the episode California here we are when Archie tells Mike that he's too good for Gloria. After she starts bawling her eyes out and everyone leaves the room there is another pretty powerful I Love you daddy kind of moment. I think my favorite non emotional Archie and Gloria moment was when Gloria called Archie a monster. For some reason that part always cracks me up. jon123 12-01-2002, 03:13 PM Another sappy Archie/Gloria moment that hasn't been shown for awhile was when she guest starred on ABP after Edith's death. She came home and looked at the house and her and Archie looked around and said everything looked the same. Then Gloria paused and said, "Still, without Ma, it all seems different." and then hugged Archie and said " I guess we're both alone now" and Archie said "you get used to that". |
