In this video essay, I wanted to discuss Eric Mathews from Boy Meets World. I felt initially this character was really charming and funny. Eric would have his moments of growth in season 1-2, where the depicted a more normal and nuanced portrayal of his character.

In season 3 and 4 however, I felt the writers struck gold with his storyline with not getting into college and a phase where he is figuring himself out.

However, in the later season they completely turned him into a caricature, (https://www.reddit.com/r/boymeetsworld/comments/1ufop35/the_writers_failed_eric_as_a_character/) where other characters on the show wouldn't take him seriously. I think this was a very sad direction to take for his character, especially he went through so much growth in seasons 3-4, with actualized self-potential and necessary tools to do well in life.

Let know in the comments below, what your thoughts and opinions were of the character did you found it sad that they turned him into caricature, or you enjoyed his character in the later seasons with the funny moments?
