The 1985 animated series “ThunderCats” has had a bit of a revival in the last 15 years with a reimagining series in 2011 at Cartoon Network and in 2020 there was the short-lived “ThunderCats Roar,” that attempted to make a more silly version taking cues from more modern shows (felt like “Adventure Time” and “Steven Universe” were sort of an inspiration), in the wake of those shows, it was announced in 2021 that Monsterverse director Adam Wingard (“Onslaught”) would be tackling a feature film at Warner Bros. that would be a mix of CGI and traditional animated elements.
Speaking of that movie, during the Annecy Film Festival, it was announced by Warner Bros. Pictures Animation (via DiscussingFilm) that they would be developing an animated film. However, it’s unclear if this is replacing Wingard’s film, if that project is pivoting to strictly animation, or something entirely new that will be happening alongside it.
