View Full Version : Anyone ever have...
White_Daisy 11-24-2002, 09:41 PM Anyone ever have moments when Happy Days is being challenged or insulted? And what have you done?
This topic came about because today my friend was upset that a girl turned him down for a date (his first ever!) and he turned to me and said, "I'm not the ****ing Fonz! I can't snap my fingers, intoxicate a girl with my mystical powers given to me from the beyond!! I'm suprised he hasn't gotten an STI or gotten someone pregnant! Geez, I'm not that ****ing low!!"
According to witnesses (i.e. my friends hiding in fear), I turned deadly white and my fists began to shake (that i remember). Luckily, he caught himself and started apologizing. I just stopped him and told him that if ever said anything like that again, I would slow roast him on a spit while playing Happy Days.
That was my emotional high of the day.
Chad22 11-24-2002, 09:46 PM Well im 16, so most of my life i have been just about the only Happy Days fan in my class. Sometimes i feel like i dont fit into this generation

Haha, trust me, I'm not far off. I'm a 15 yr old junior. Besides getting made fun of because I'm the only Happy Days fan, I also get made fun of cause I'm the youngest in the grade. Nothing bad though, my friends just crack some annoying jokes and people don't trust me with anything major because they think i'm so immature. Sometimes I wish I could just go back in time and into Happy Days. Potsie and I would make a great couple.
FonzForever 11-24-2002, 10:19 PM Reading some of the posts, I wanted to pass this along.
I have been a lifelong fan of HD, and I'd say from 1981-1983, from 5th to 7th grade I did my best to emulate the Fonz. Remember Happy Days was still airing it's original run at this time, albeit the later years. Want to know something? It didn't go over very well. I actually got into a fight my first day of junior high, b/c of someome calling my bomber jacket (the closest thing my parents would give me at the time) "pigskin".
My bomber jacket wearing, HD loving self wasn't popular with the girls either. So if you've been wondering about "my" generation, wonder no more.
It's WAY better now. Even if you don't know anyone with your interests you can come to a place like this, exchange ideas, have fun, and share your interest with others. The best thing is, you can do it anonymoulsy if you chose, and people of all ages and walks of life can participate.
:D
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 11-24-2002, 11:32 PM I have to agree with you guys. I, too, was the only Happy Days fanatic in my grade/school. I did a lot of my projects somehow using a connection to that show (or Laverne & Shirley). I got teased.. but it was all fun & game. Ugh.. I hate it when people insult it! My friend Amanda makes fun of it as soon as I mention it, so I try to keep my mouth shut about it LOl. When most people ask what my favorite show is they usually just give me a weird smile haha.
AnaheimPMWitch 11-25-2002, 02:13 AM for me I was always insulted I was and TOTALLY am a Case of the ugly duckling turning into the Swan so I was just use to getting insulted NOW THOUGH I megily get insulted (Okay MOST of you already know this BUT i'll tell the story anyways) at ANOTHER board here at sitcoms online JUST because I like an actress who LEFT the rumor is she got fired but ITS A RUMOR and the People IN THE OTHER board TAKE THE RUMOR TO BE TRUE they CONTINUE to insult me for liking her at first I GOT MAD BACK now I"m just LIKE OH WHO CARES they arent worth it IF IT WAS IRL though I think i'd be more mad so I know how you feel but the thing is for me IRL EVERYONE I know LOVES Happy days so I dont think they'd insult it (well not purposely anywho) OKAY i'll stop now

So wait.. the woman who worked @ the lil restaruant got "fired"/left the show?
iluvfonzie 11-25-2002, 07:22 AM When I was in junior high I had such a crush on Fonzie. I bought a black nylon jacket to wear to school and wanted a black leather jacket soo badly, but my parents always said we couldn't afford one. A lot of the kids teased me cause I went around trying to emulate the Fonz. When I was in 8th grade, I got my first black leather jacket and gave 2 thumbs up when I got it.
animalcrackers 11-25-2002, 09:11 AM It's great we can all meet here with our HD fascination. Some people tell me to GET A LIFE! But, hey this is fun for me, because reality can sometimes be too real. I enjoy other things and TV shows, but I always have to start my day here. For along time I was a 'closet HD fan' but I've come out and I'm so happy!
Moonlight Lady 11-25-2002, 12:52 PM It's happened to me, I just won't let myself get upset over it. Those culturally challenged morons aren't worth the hassle  . I know I love Happy Days and there are tons of people out there who do.
I'm relearning coolness through Fonzie.
White_Daisy 11-25-2002, 05:12 PM See, what I hated was something that happened a couple of weeks ago. People would always mock me for liking Happy Days and they'd mostly poke fun at Fonzie. A few weeks ago, my school had a Blast from the Past day. As expected, I dressed up in fifties style. To be exact, I was a Pink Lady (i loved it!!!). I saw guys walk in, dressed as Fonzie and I went crazy on one of my guy friends. He always makes fun of Fonzie, whenever he sees me, he asks me if Fonzie's knocked some girl up yet (argh!) and yet he dresses up as Fonzie on this day and has the audacity to impersonate him?!?!?!?! That is one **** of a hypocrite!

FonzForever, I have to agree with you. This generation will not be made fun of much because the internet allows us to access some of these boards. But we also have the whole "Did Fonzie knock anyone up? Did Fonzie get an STI yet?" People aren't afraid like they were in the fifties to say that out loud and now when they make fun of Happy Days (as rare as it is), it's brutal. I've heard some disgusting things about Fonzie said to me that I wouldn't hear in a NC-17 film!
YoliUSA 11-25-2002, 05:27 PM I'm 14, and I am the only one in my class that watches Happy Days. Sometimes they tease me for that, but it don't care, I won't stop watching Happy Days because my friends don't like it!
White_Daisy 11-25-2002, 05:32 PM Okay, all high school kids (past and present) should recieve some sort of award for going through high school and putting up with all that abuse because all that teasing and peer pressure is tough!
Chad22 11-25-2002, 05:35 PM I Decided to start home school last year, because i hated high school. I Only had one friend and we always got beat up and made fun of. Plus i like sleeping in :D

Unfortunately people doing that are making two mistakes. First you can't take a fictional character out of his "universe" and apply him/her to the real world. Secondly HD took place in the fifties and sixties. Who heard of this kind of stuff back then?
There is also one thing people forget when dealing with Fonzie's "exploits". It was never mentioned what happened. Fonzie was always a gentlemen. How many times did he just say
he had a "greaaat" time with his date. Nothing else. For all anyone know they could have went stargazing.
Remember the first episode where it's revealed that Mary Lou Milligin (was that her name) never did anything but kiss on her dates even though she had a "reputation" for doing more?

Ya! Haha. And Fonz got all excited because he thought Rich played with her chest! LOl. Well, you know Fonz didnt just go looking @ the stars.. what was the episode where he went on a date, and he said she was a real snooze?
iluvfonzie 11-25-2002, 09:20 PM Maybe he just did a lot of heavy necking. If he really did it with all those girls, he would've gotten at least 1 of them pregnant. There were no latex condoms back then.

I despise high school, I mean, the pressures we go through are barely noted. I go to a high school that is in the Top Ten Public High Schools in the country and either One or Two on the New York State List. And since I go to such a challenging high school, I'm not allowed to have problems. If I am lonely and have no friends, my parents will tell me to buck it up and bear it because there is no way I am leaving my school. Luckily everyone here is too concerned with grades to be concerned about friendships and such. But I am happy here, I'm still walking away next year with a 3.9 GPA.
Cactus Jack 11-26-2002, 06:37 PM I get all that too, but not much, no one insults it, but some poeple have said thats its old, thats about it

This I learned from Health Class, condoms were there since the 1920's, there were no latex condoms, but there were condoms. And the Pill was introduced in 1952, and though it wasn't readily available, a man like Fonzie could have gotten access to them for his girlfriends and parents back then weren't as likely to freak out if they saw the Pill on their daughter's dresser but didn't know what it was.
FonzForever 11-26-2002, 07:11 PM Yeah, High Scholl can suck. But, take it from me, there THERE is poetic justice in this world. Most of the people I went to school with are married, some have kids, and in all those cases their best days are behind them. Me? I'm still free, running a site (sorry I can't name it) that most of them would be jealous of.
When I went to my reunion three years ago, there was this one guy. Used to be popular in school, played football the whole nine. 10 years later he works a job, he was obvioulsy ashamed of, and had the wife and kid. It did change him for the better as a person, but you see my point. I know it might not help anyone, but trust me high schoool has squat to do with real life.

Oh, I so totally agree! It is so tough growing up. I hated the whole "puberty" thing, and trying to find your place in the cliques in public schools. I was the odd ball growing up. I was extremely shy, and sensitive which made it so much more fun for kids to pick on me. And I had frizzy red red which I never knew what to do with. I had no fashion sense whatsoever and I either always said the wrong thing or couldn't say anything at all. I was SUCH a geek!
Then, one day, I just so happened to grow up. I discovered who I was on the inside-- which I think every body needs to do, because that's the most important part of growing up. And, I began to slowly become cool. When I first began college and cute, popular guys started flirting with me and hitting on me I was shocked! I learned what my own fashion style was and my red hair turned from frizzy to curly which everyone I meet says they just have to feel and play with. I, sadly, don't even talk about my obsessions with tv shows with my friends because they just think I'm a geek for it. (There is SUCH a culture gap between us, but we've learned to get past that. A lot of that is learning that these people are never going to understand where I'm coming from and to just overlook their hindsight.) Personally, I LOVE obsessing over shows, but these boards are all I have to share my feelings about them with.
Anyway, my point is if there is anyone out there who is having a hard time with life as a teen and the whole social scene, then please have hope. Because, even though things may be tough now, there is coming a day when you will grow up. And coolness is a state of mind: if you think cool, then eventually that will radiate from the inside to the outside. But do yourself a favor and find out who you are. As corn-bally as this sounds, it is actually true.

Yeah I TOTALLY agree I was a MAJOR case of ugly duckling turning into a Swan I was a Nerd in highschool But Now  ten years later I"ve seen the girls I've graduated with and well they are all HUGE,3 or 4 kids from different fathers on Welfare and in Rehab (cause most of the popular kids did drugs at My school) and here I am LOOKING GOOD and Lovin life
White_Daisy 11-26-2002, 11:14 PM I totally understand what you are saying about the high school reunion. But it's just that for some of us, it's difficult to wait till the reunion for revenge. We'd prefer it sooner and faster.
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 11-26-2002, 11:40 PM I totally agree people! I cant WAIT for my reunion! I was pretty shy in school, and when it came to talking, I always goofed up! LOl. I cant wait to go to the reunion and see how everyone changed (especially those for the worst)!!! Haha.

Well, don't go thinking "revenge". Revenge is something someone actually does. I was talking satisfaction and things all working out in the end. If you want improvement now, there is an answer, one I which I wish I knew about in High school. Confidence. Just be as confident as you can and do things to build your confidence as much as possible. It turns the tables 100% Example: If someone makes fun of you for something you like, try not to feel bad. Instead wonder why this loser has the time to worry about what you like or don't like :quest:
Cause he/she isn't so cool after all. Knowing that, how valueable is their opinion. If they continue let 'em know you'e not having it!
Hope this helps. Talk about off topic!
White_Daisy 11-26-2002, 11:45 PM Thanks for the advice! And I don't think we're too off topic. I can relate it back. Hmm, there were many eps with some reference to social cliques in Happy Days. There would always be one where one of the "nerds" would want to date some of the cool girls. And don't forget Joanie vs. Pom Pom Girl. And the Fonz? Hey, he was in a league of his own!
FonzForever 11-26-2002, 11:54 PM No Prob. Here's another way to relate it. Ever see "Fonzie vs. The She-Devils? The She-Devils have a "Nerd Party" with Richie and Co. Fonzie shows up (first in disguise) and as he is leaving put glasses on one of the She-Devils saying " I had my own nerd party. Guess who won." :D
Cactus Jack 11-26-2002, 11:59 PM I LOVE THAT EP.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When Fonzie comes in dressed like a nerd:lol:
AnaheimPMWitch 11-27-2002, 01:28 AM I atually didnt go to my Reunion cause well I couldnt but lets just say the Popular girls Now work at the local minimarket TALK about low paying job Okay I'll stop that was mean :wasntme:
Okay I'M loving these emoticons to much
