Ever since Crowded House debuted in 1986 I never understood why the song Don't Dream It's Over became a hit for Crowded House? Is it because of the message the song has or is it because it was a surprise hit? Because i'm noticing that a lot of singers and groups have now covered Don't Dream It's Over from Diana Krall Sixpence None The Richer and Susan Boyle and it was featured as the anthem in the 2025 animated movie Goat. I am surprised that Don't Dream It's Over has become a popular song now and it seems to have smart lyrics in it

I think this song speaks to hopefulness in the face of adversity, so it is uplifting and also the melody itself is quite beautiful.

Excellent music video also which got heavy video rotation during MTV's peak days in the 80's.

Yes, it’s one of the best epic songs to come out in 1986

I started liking Don't Dream It's Over when I heard it on the soundtrack of the animated film Goat and I associated that song with the character Will because it was his song. I think Crowded House knew that this song was their breakout hit and even today Don't Dream It's Over is used in sports because of the positive message and uplifting lyrics
