After reading Lena Dunham’s memoir Famesick and rewatching season one of HBO Girls, I realized that Hannah Horvath was indeed the voice of our generation, and, despite that, Hannah, Marnie, Jessa, and Shoshanna are often selfish, messy, narcissistic, or unbearable, they are also sincere and kind in the show, which refused to turn millennial women in their twenties into role models.
