Like Margaret Anderson does?
She unclogs sinks and I think she tackles the water heater.

I dont remember seeing June doing maintenance around the home.

Do we know if the Cleavers are supposed to align with a more upper middle class audience and the Andersons with a more middle middle class?

I see such a differance between the two.

FKB came over from radio. Was listening to the radio class based?
Does FKB have roots in soap opera radio?

Great point; she never did anything shown except using the vacuum in a few episodes. Also they never had a housekeeper/maid to do the heavy cleaning a house like theirs would need!

She once trimmed the Tar Paper for her flower boxes with Ward's Hedge Clippers

In "Mother's Helper" June was too tired to go to the movies !

She says she is Tired and a little Mad at herself, because she cleaned up the whole house and now the the girls are not coming over until next week ! (How Dare You June !)

She says Mrs Manors "IS A GOOD WORKER" - WHAT B S like June is sickly or something ? Who cleans Mrs Manners house ! lol

JUST WHAT does June do all day ?

The more I watch these re-runs the more I dislike June's Snoopyness, Laziness, the Snotty Temperament, and her famous faces of Dis-approval !

I'm glad I never married June !

She goes to luncheons wearing an ooh la la shirt to eat finger sandwiches.

I remember what CosmicCharlie mentioned, when Ward talked about June gumming up his hedge shears by having cut tar paper. (Ward, you need some power clippers.)

In the show's opening for one of the last seasons, isn't June seen on the ground doing some gardening?

Doesn't Ward hint that June has a tendency to break things being an airhead. In an episode he's fixing a lamp cord because telling the boys something like "your mother pulls it out of the socket by the cord and not the plug".

She has the "girls" over to eat lunch, play cards, and watch Stanley the monkey swing on the chandelier.

I don't think that Ward respects June the way that Jim respects Margaret.

When Margaret tells Jim that she has tried her best to fix something, Jim says its time to call the professional. He doesnt chide her and say you don't know what you are doing. As if Margaret is just as capable as Jim is.

Ward on the other hand says something to Wally about dating a blonde. As somehow these type of women are different. More like an exoctic pet.

There's also an early episode where W&J have an exchange after Ward has worked on a dripping kitchen faucet. He has just replaced the washer in the faucet, and tells her if she wouldn't turn it off so hard, it wouldn't drip.

She counters that if she doesn't turn it off hard, it drips.

I think he was exasperated at that. If they had done the eye roll in those days, he would have done it.

This thread raises the question did the Cleavers ever have a repairman over in an episode? It's implied Ward is quite handy. But, what's the cutoff line of what he can repair and what's over his head?

Well we know Ward struggles to replace a lamp cord, he pays the boys to paint the trash barrels, and pays the alcoholic guy to paint the house, and pays the bug guy to get rid of the bugs on the flowers that have Do Dads on the bugs ...

When Beaver left the tub running and the kitchen ceiling plaster eventually fell down, Ward said they'd have to get someone in to repair it. But we never saw that.

Another repair Ward attempted was a kitchen cabinet door that kept opening by itself. He thought he fixed it, left, and it fell open again. Maybe June had to call someone in to fix that.

Right now, Beaver's Doll Buggy episode is on MeTV. Near the beginning, June tells Ward the sink is stopped up.

Ward should have said - "Get the plunger and take care of it."
