View Full Version : The first music album purchased for yourself
GoldenTV 05-30-2026, 06:50 PM Growing up in the 80's, the first music album bought for myself was Joe Cocker's Greatest Hits record. My older brother used to play this record and really liked it, so bought a copy when got my first cheap record player.

JO Sweet Heart 05-30-2026, 10:15 PM The first album that I bought for myself is one of the following three albums.
Tanya Tucker-What Do I Do With Me (released on July 2, 1991)
Hal Ketchum-Past The Point Of Rescue (released on May 7, 1991)
Travis Tritt-Its All About To Change (released on May 28, 1991)
God bless you and Travis and Tanya always!!!
Holly (a girl who forever misses Hal)
P.S. My 9th birthday was that year on June 30th, but I do not remember which album was my first to buy. I do remember getting Tanya's album just weeks after it got released, but I could've had the other two already since they were released earlier that year.
Dude111 05-30-2026, 11:08 PM I guess it was PINK FLOYD - THE WALL
Incredibly thats the only album I still have that made it from then! (I didnt used to take care of my things well sadly.. They all had scracthes, etc)
This one is good still...
I ruined my fathers Jimi Hendrix Records, they were scratched to hell... I felt terrible... I got a new copy of that double album a few years ago.... I have that one in my room now...

Wow, so you were 9 year old when buying those albums. That would make you a cool kid :)
Our household wasn't too big on country music, but remember seeing Marshal Tucker Band's country album "Fire On The Mountain" in the album collection.

Back in the early 80's, they would call anybody that listened to groups such as Pink Floyd, Alan Parson or Steely Dan a "Pot Head". Of course in a good way with good taste :)
No way I’m gonna remember. Maybe one of Billy Joel’s?
Dude111 05-31-2026, 02:39 PM I almost said I didnt remember Opus,then I remembered about Pink Floyd..

That is close enough. Billy Joel had alot of chart busting songs back then from these three albums, so it might be one of these album you bought.

I still have those 3, and others of his, on vinyl, but I can’t definitely say I bought them in order as they were released. There was probably some backtracking. I’m pretty sure I went back to Piano Man and some of the earlier stuff.
I should start a ‘What vinyl do you still own?’ thread……
