This movie is from 1999 and I was wondering how many people here have seen it. I think anybody who lives in a small town or has lived in one should see this movie. It is one of the most accurate portrayals of life in a small town ever made...

It was filmed in a remote area of West Texas in the town of Alpine. This is one of the most sparsely populated regions in the US,only portions of the Great Basin in NV and UT might be so remote. In reality Alpine has several thousand residents and there are only two other towns within about 50 miles. To reach a medium sized city like El Paso or Midland-Odessa is a drive of many hours. The whole point of the film was trying to describe what real life is like in a very remote small town - a place so remote there is nothing nearby to compare anything with. It was a bit different from the typical teenager living in small town USA film.


I suppose it can feel not pleasant living in such small areas with not many people!
