View Full Version : Spring
1strunfan 11-23-2002, 05:48 PM Here is another story. Hope you like it. Let me know.
It is Spring. Jo and Rick are living in Peekskill. Rick is a studio musician in the city, so he spends much of his time away. Jo is now Administrator of the Warner Center. Jamie and Tisha are both going to school at Eastland, and are roomates. Tootie is 5 months pregnant. She and Jamall are busy with the Theatre and getting ready for Tisha’s 16th birthday. It is in 2 weeks. Natalie, Harper, & JT are in the process of moving back to Peekskill. Natalie is not Editor of the Peekskill Press and Harper is working freelance. Mrs. G and Beverly Ann are living in the house. Blair and Tad are happy as can be with baby Jo. Tad keeps busy handling all the Warner affairs while Blair spends her time with the baby.
The story begins with Jamie walking into her and Tisha’s bedroom and catches Tisha and Todd (Tisha’s boyfriend of 4 months) making out on Tisha’s bed.
Jamie: A HUM!!
Tisha: (Quickly pulls away from Todd) Oh, Jamie. Are you back already? I thought you were going to the library to study.
Jamie: Tisha, it’s almost 10:00 PM I’ve been gone nearly 2 hours!
Todd: (smiling at Tisha) You know what they say, Time flies when you are having fun.
(Jamie shoots him a look)
Jamie: Well, I sure hope you can fly. I just saw Ms. Card checking rooms. It’s time for lights out.
Tisha: Oh my gosh it is! Quick, Todd. Go out the window.
Todd: Just one more kiss?
(KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.)
Ms. Card: Girls, it’s time for lights out (tries to open the door) Is this door locked? Girls, what is going on in there.
Jamie: Oh nothing, we are just getting ready for bed.
Tisha: (quietely) Bye Todd.
Todd: Bye baby. (he climbs out the window)
Ms. Card: Do I hear a boy’s voice in there? Open this door.
(The Jamie quickly unlocks the door as Tisha shuts off the light, and the girls jump into bed. Mrs. Cash walks in)
Ms. Card: (turns on the light) Girls, what is going on in here?
Tisha (yawns): Oh, nothing. We were just talking. Getting ready for bed.
Ms. Card (gives the girls a funny look) Well, okay. But it’s time for bed. No more talking.
Girls: Okay. Goodnight.
(Ms. Card turns out the light and leaves. The girls wait until they hear her footsteps walking down the hall. Jamie turns on her lamp and Tisha gets up and goes into the bathroom)
Tisha: (brushing her hair) Jamie, what do you think of Todd?
Jamie (now with her PJ’s on): What do you mean?
Tisha: (comes out of the bathroom with her PJ’s on) Do you think I’ll end up marrying him?
Jamie: Gosh Tisha, I don’t know? Do you love him?
Tisha: Well, I think so. We’ve been going steady since Christmas. And we are getting pretty close.
Jamie: Yeah, but 4 months probably isn’t enough time to decide if you really love him or not.
Tisha: Maybe. Maybe not. (The girls lay down and Jamie turns off her light)
Tisha: Jamie, do you think I should you know, do it with him?
Jamie (sitting straight up in bed turns the light back on) What?
Tisha: (sits up in bed) You heard me. What do you think?
Jamie: I think NO.
Tisha: Why not?
Jamie: Because you are 15 years old and you’ve only known him for 4 months!
Tisha: I’m almost 16, and Todd is 18. He is a senior.
Jamie: Okay, almost 16. That is still too young.
Tisha: (looks a little discusted and lays back down) Whatever.
Jamie: You aren’t, are you?
Tisha: I don’t know. I do think I love him.
Jamie: At least promise me you won’t until at least after your birthday. You need to do alot of thinking about this before you just jump into something.
Tisha: Okay.
Jamie: Promise me.
Tisha: Okay, I promise.
(Jamie turns the light off and they both go to sleep)
(It is the next morning and we see Jo sitting at her desk at the Center working on some paperwork. There are 2 other workers there, and about 6 other people hanging out. Blair walks in with Blue Jeans and a nice light sweater. Her hair is in a ponytail. She sees Jo at her desk and walks over. She seems very happy)
Blair: Hey Jo. What are you doing?
Jo: Hey Blair, what does it look like I’m doing.
Blair: Say, Jo. What do you say we go get some lunch and spend the rest of the day shopping?
Jo: Where is little Jo?
Blair: She is with Mrs. Garrett and Beverly Ann. We took her to the park this morning. They wanted to watch her this afternoon.
Jo: Oh, that is really nice. I’d love to go, but I really need to get this work done.
Blair (gives her a pouty look): Please Jo?
Jo: (grins) I can’t.
Blair: I thought when you took the job as Administrator, we’d have more time together.
Jo: we will. Look, I promise tomorrow I’ll take the whole day off and we’ll go shopping, okay?
Blair: (starts to leave, talks to Jo over her shoulder) Who knows if we’ll have tomorrow.
Jo: What?
Blair: Oh, nothing. (She gets to the door and turns) Jo!
Jo: Yeah, Blair?
Blair: Good-bye Jo. (grins) You know I love you.
Jo: (smiles) Yeah, I know. See you tomorrow.
(Blair smiles and waves then walks out. Jo looks back at her paperwork smiles and shakes her head slightly )
(Meanwhile, at Eastland Cafeteria. Jamie and Tisha eat lunch, then Tisha gets up and leaves for her next class. Jamie waits until she is gone, then goes to the pay phone and dials Natalie’s number)
Natalie: Hello?
Jamie: Aunt Natalie? Hi, it’s Jamie.
Natalie: (looking puzzled) Jamie? Is everything okay?
Jamie: Sure, why do you ask?
Natalie: Oh, no reason. It’s just that you are calling me in the middle of the day out of the blue.
Jamie: Well, actually. I kind of need to talk to you.
Natalie: Okay, what about? Are you okay?
Jamie: Sure, I’m fine. I’d like to talk to you about something, though. Can I come over later?
Natalie: Sure. I’m going to be at my office when you get out of school. Why don’t you come by there, and we’ll talk then.
Jamie: Okay. That would be great. Thanks Aunt Natalie.
Natalie: No problem. I’ll see you later.
Jamie: Bye
Natalie: Bye (they hang up the phone. Natalie looks down at JT, who is sleeping.) I wonder what that is all about?
( A little while later, we see Jo, still sitting at her desk when in walks Mrs. Garrett, hair a little messy, and visibly shaken. Jo looks up and sees her walk in.)
Jo: Mrs. G, are you okay?
Mrs. G: Jo! I’m so glad you are here.
Jo: Is something wrong? Are you okay?
Mrs. G: Jo, I have someting to tell you. You better sit down.
Jo: What is it? Is it Jamie, or Rick?
Mrs. G: No, Jo, it’s Blair.
Jo: (sits down on her desk ) What is wrong with Blair?
Mrs. G: I’m afraid she was in an accident, Jo.
Jo: How is she? Where is she? Was Jo with her?
Mrs. G: Jo is fine, she was with me.
Jo: Mrs. G! What about Blair?
Mrs G: (starts to cry) Jo! She was hit head on by a drunk driver! They’ve taken her to the hospital, but they don’t know if she’s going to make it.

Jo_Marie 11-25-2002, 01:08 AM This is Great, I can't wait for more :)
1strunfan 11-25-2002, 12:03 PM Jo: (in shock) No, it wasn’t her. It can’t be, she was just here.
Mrs. G: (still crying) Jo, it was her. The hospital called. We need to get over there right now.
Jo: Okay, Mrs. G. I’ll go with you, but they have to be mistaken. It can’t be Blair. She was just here, asking me to go to lunch and shopping with her.
Mrs. G: Come on Jo, (trying to wipe away the tears) I’ll drive.
Jo: (still in shock, smiles) Okay, but you are going to feel pretty foolish when we show up at the hospital looking for Blair and she is in a shopping mall somewhere.
(They get in Mrs. G’s car and drive to the hospital. When they get there, Tootie and Natalie are sitting in the waiting room, they have been crying)
Jo: Hey guys, what are you doing here?
(They give Jo a look and then look at Mrs. Garrett)
Tootie: Jo, didn’t Mrs. Garrett tell you? We are here because of Blair’s accident.
Natalie: Yeah.
Jo: You guys, like I’ve been trying to tell Mrs. G. It wasn’t Blair. She was just in the center talking to me. She was trying to get me to go have lunch and go shopping but I had too much to do.
Natalie: (looks concerned at Mrs. G) Is she okay?
Mrs. Garrett: Jo, it was Blair. The doctors are working with her now.
Jo: (getting angry) I’ve told you guys, it wasn’t Blair. I just talked to her. I promised I’d take the whole day off tomorrow, and spend it with her. (suddenly, Jo looks like she is getting sick. She looks past then and she talks quietly) She said we may not have tomorrow. Then, as she was leaving she turned and said “Good-bye Jo. You know I love you.” (at that point, Jo’s eyes fill with tears, and she looks at the other girls and Mrs. G. They are all crying. Jo swallows hard, then tries to smile. She turns and walks away. The others just sit crying. Natalie starts to follow Jo. Mrs. G grabs her arm)
Mrs. G: Let her go, Natalie. She needs some time alone right now.
Natalie: But Mrs. Garrett. She needs us.
Mrs. G: I know, but you know Jo. The more we push, the harder she pulls away. She’ll be back.
Tootie: How can you be sure? She doesn’t seem to believe us. Maybe she’ll leave the hospital.
Mrs. G: I know Jo. She won’t leave Blair here. She is trying to deny it now, but I think down deep she knows we are telling the truth. She won’t leave Blair.
(The girls all hug and cry. Just then, the Doctor comes out. Is there a Mr. Warner here?)
Mrs. G: No, I’m afraid he is out of town, but we are here with Mrs. Warner.
Dr: Well, I’ve got some bad news. (Tootie and Natalie are standing on each side of Mrs. Garrett, holding her hands)
Tootie: What is it?
Dr: I’m afraid Mrs. Warner has suffered sever trauma to the back of her head. (Jo walks up behind them un-noticed) She is still unconscious, but she is stable. If she makes it through the next 24 hours, we should be able to know more about her injuries. But, I have to tell you, her chances are slim.
Mrs. Garrett: Can we go in and see her now?
Dr: You may go in and see her now, but I’m afraid only two at a time. And, you need to be prepared for what you are going to see. I’m afraid she isn’t a pretty sight right now.
Jo: You can’t mean Blair Warner (smiles slightly). She is always beautiful. (tears begin to fill her eyes again, but she blinks and swallows hard and keeps them in) (The doctor walks away, and the 4 of them stand looking at each other)
Dr: (looking puzzled) Excuse me?
Natalie: Never mind. (The doctor walks away, and the others stand looking at each other)
Mrs. G: Well, I think Jo should go in first.
Tootie: And you, Mrs. Garrett. I think you should go in first with Jo.
Natalie: Yeah, Tootie and I will wait here for you.
Jo: Are you guys sure? You can go in first.
Natalie: We’re sure. You two should go in first.
(Jo and Mrs. G walk slowly through the double doors and down the corridor. They hear only muffled voices and beeping machines. Then they reach Blair’s room. There she lays. Tubes and IV’s all over her. More machines than you can count, each with a different little noise. Mrs. G walks over to the bed first. Jo stands back. Still not wanting to believe it is Blair.)
Mrs. G: (picks us Blair’s lifeless hand) Blair, It’s Mrs. Garrett. We are here, honey. (she starts to cry)
(Jo walks over to the other side and looks down at Blair. She is red and bruised and swollen. Her hair is all messed us. Jo takes her hand and tears well in her eyes. But this time, she can’t hold them back. They start spilling over and running down her cheeks.)
Jo: Blair, it’s me Jo. (She takes her free hand and caresses Blair’s hair) Hey, look at you, you’re hair is a mess. (Jo tries to fix Blair’s hair so it looks presentable) We can’t have anyone coming in and seeing you like this, now can we. (She starts to cry harder, but tries to hold it in. Mrs. Garrett lets go of Blair’s hand and walks over and puts her arm around Jo. Jo talking to Mrs. G but still looking at Blair) You know, this shouldn’t have happened. I should have been with her. It’s my fault. If I had gone to lunch with her, she would be okay now.
Mrs. G: Jo, you can’t blame yourself. You can’t protect everyone all the time.
(Mrs. G and Jo stand next to Blair’s bed crying, Mrs. G is holding Jo.)
(Out in the lobby, Tootie and Natalie are trying to talk about something besides Blair.)
Natalie: (picking up her cell phone) Oh, I better call Jamie and tell her what happened. I guess we’ll have to have our little talk later.
Tootie: I’ve already called the School. They were going to tell the girls.
Natalie: (puts her phone back down) Oh, okay.
Tootie: What little talk were you and Jamie having?
Natelie: I don’t really know. She just called me today and asked if she could come talk to me. She didn’t say what it was about.
(Just then, Jamie and Tisha walk in)
Jamie: Hi guys.
Tisha: Hi Mom, Hi Aunt Natalie. How is Aunt Blair?
(Tootie and Natalie exchange looks)
Natalie: Well, she’s been in an accident, and she’s hurt pretty bad.
Tisha: Can we go in and see her?
Tootie: I don’t know if you should, I mean, she’s pretty bad. We haven’t even been in yet.
Natalie: She is in ICU.
Jamie: (looking worried) Where is my mom?
Natalie: She and Mrs. Garrett are in with her now.
Tisha: She isn’t going to die is she?(tears start filling her eyes. She looks at Jamie and she is tearing up too. Natalie and Tootie stand up and Tootie hugs Tisha. Natalie hugs Jamie)
Natalie: It’ll be okay girls. We are all here for her, and each other.
Jamie: How is my mom?
Natalie: I think your mom will be just fine.
Tisha: Mom, are you doing okay? I mean, the baby and all.
Tootie: I’m fine, Tisha. You don’t have to worry about us. Say, why don’t we go to the gift shop and try and find Aunt Blair something?
Tisha: That sounds nice.
Jamie: I think I’ll stay here, in case my mom comes out and needs me.
Natalie: I’ll stay here with Jamie. You two go ahead.
Tootie: We won’t be long. Jo and Mrs. Garrett will probably be out soon. (Tootie and Tisha walk off and Natalie and Jamie sit down)
Natalie: So, Jamie. What was it that you wanted to talk to me about?
Jamie: Are you sure you want to talk about this now? I mean with Aunt Blair and all, this seems a little silly.
Natalie: Nonsense, Jamie. We are alone, and this is a good time to talk about anything.
Jamie: Okay. I don’t really know how to put this.
Natalie: How about just straight out.
Jamie: Alright, here goes. I think Tisha is going to... you know, do it with Todd.
Natalie: (looking a little shocked) What?
Jamie: We were talking last night, after I caught them making out in our room. And, she said that she might.
Natalie: But, she’s too young.
Jamie: That is what I told her. Would you please talk to her about it Aunt Natalie?
Natalie: Sure, but why me, why not your mom, or her mom?
1strunfan 11-25-2002, 02:28 PM Jamie: Well, you know my mom. I don’t really want to talk to her about this. And Aunt Tootie would probably kill her. And Aunt Blair, she’d tell my mom. And now, she’s out of the question, anyway.
Natalie: I guess I could talk to her.
Jamie: Please don’t tell her I told you. She’ll kill me.
Natalie: I promise. I’ll come up with some way of talking to her without involving you. Okay?
Jamie: That’s great Aunt Natalie. (she gives Natalie a little hug) I knew you would.
(Back in Blair’s Room)
Mrs. Garrett: Jo, I think we should go out and let the other girls come in now.
Jo: Okay. You go get them, and when they get in here, I’ll leave. I don’t want her to be alone. (smiles slightly)
Mrs. Garrett: (patting Jo’s shoulder) I understand (she turns and leaves the room)
Jo: (still holding Blair’s hand) Blair. I’m sorry about all this. If I could trade places with you, I would. Just please wake up. Please
(In the waiting room. Tootie and Tisha walk up just as Mrs. Garrett walks out of the ICU. They see that she has been crying)
Natalie: Hey Mrs. Garrett (hugs her) How is she?
Mrs. Garrett: Oh, she is okay. She’s hooked up to every machine I think they have.
Jamie: How is mom? (looking worried)
Mrs. Garrett: (Hugs Jamie) She’s fine. She is just waiting for the other girls to go back before she comes out. She doesn’t want Blair to be alone.
Tootie: That sounds just like Jo.
(Tootie and Natalie look at each other)
Natalie: Well, Tootie, are you ready to go in?
Tootie: As ready as I’m ever going to be. (looks at Tisha) You girls wait here with Mrs. Garrett.
(T&J) We will.
(Tootie and Natalie walk down the hallway and into Blair’s room. They see Jo standing next to her, holding her hand and caressing her hair. They both tear up.)
Natalie: Jo, how is she?
Jo: Oh, (smiles) I think she’s going to wake up any time now.
Tootie: (with tears streaming down her face) I sure hope so.
Jo: Well, I guess I better be getting out of here, before the run me out. (Jo walks out, and Tootie and Natalie stand on either side of Blair’s bed. They are both crying)
Tootie: Blair, it’s us. Natalie and Tootie. If you wake up, I’ve got some good gossip I’d like to tell you.
Natalie: (gives her a funny look) What?
Tootie: I saw a show on TV once, sometimes people in comas can hear. And, if you say just the right thing, it will wake them up.
Natalie: I guess it’s worth a try.
Tootie: Blair, do you want to hear some gossip?
Natalie: Yeah, it’s a real hum-dinger.
(Natalie and Tootie say anything that they think might wake her up)
(In the waiting room Jo walks in and sees Jamie and Tisha sitting with Mrs. Garrett)
Jo: Hey guys, when did you get here?
Jamie: (stands and hugs her mom) Just a little while ago.
Jo: Are you okay, honey?
Jamie: Yeah, mom. I’m fine. How about you?
Jo: I’m fine.
Tisha: When can we go in and see Aunt Blair?
Jo: Oh, when Nat and Tootie come out.
Tisha: How does she look?
Jo: Well, not really great. But, it’s Blair so not horrible.
Jamie: Mom, is it okay if I don’t go in and see her?
Jo: Why Jamie?
Jamie: Well, if she doesn’t make it, I don’t want to remember her like that. I want to remember my Beautiful Aunt Blair.
Jo: Sure honey. But, she is going to make it. We just have to believe that. But, if you don’t want to go in. Well, that’s your call.
Jamie: Thanks mom.(hugs Jo)
Tisha: You’ve got a point, Jamie. I don’t think I’ll go in either.
Mrs. Garrett: You can go in and see her when she’s better.
(Back in Blair’s room, the doctor walks in.)
Dr: Excuse me ladies. We really need to check on Mrs. Warner right now. Do you mind leaving for a while.
Natalie: Sure, how long?
Dr: It might be an hour or so. We want to run a few tests, maybe it will help us better access the damage.
Tootie: Okay. (looks at Blair) Bye Blair. We’ll be back later.
Natalie: Bye Blair. We love you. (she squeezes her hand, then lets go and they walk out. Once they are in the hallway, they break down, and just hug each other and cry. When they regain their composure, they walk into the waiting room. There they see Jamie and Tisha sitting talking, but they don’t see Mrs. Garrett or Jo)
Natalie: Hey girls, where are Mrs. Garrett & Jo?
Tisha: Mrs. Garrett went to call Beverly Ann, and Jo is talking to Uncle Rick.
(Mrs. Garrett walks up. The girls walk over to the vending machine)
Tootie: Mrs. Garrett, how are the babies?
Mrs. Garrett: They are fine. I just spoke with Beverly Ann.
Natalie: Has she heard from Tad?
Mrs. Garrett: Yes, he phoned earlier. He is still stuck in the Caribbean. He can’t get back, with the hurricane and all.
Natalie: Poor guy.
Tootie: It must be killing him to be so far away at a time like this.
Natalie: When I phoned Harper earlier, he said they were expecting it to be huge. He can’t come home until it’s over either. I guess that’s what you get when you freelance. You have to be where the action is.
Tootie: I guess. Oh, Mrs. Garrett.
(Jo walks up.)
Jo: I just talked to Rick. He’s going to stay in the City and try and finish work early so he can come back and stay home for awhile. (looks at Tootie and Natalie, gets a little angry) Why are you guys out here? Who is in with Blair?
Mrs. Garrett: Are you sure you don’t need him here?
Jo: Yeah, I’m sure. Who is in with Blair? I don’t want her left alone!
Tootie: The doctor is in with her. He said it would be an hour or so before we can go back in.
Jo: Okay. Well, I guess it’ll be okay.
Mrs. Garrett: Jo, I think it might be good for Rick to be here, just in case you need him.
Jo: I’ll be fine. Besides, I’m not going to be home with him anyway. I’m staying here until Blair leaves.
Mrs. Garrett: What do you mean, staying here until Blair leaves?
Jo: I’m not leaving her here alone. You and Beverly Ann need to watch Baby Jo, Tootie is in no condition to stay, and Natalie has JT to watch. Naturally, I’m the one who will stay.
Mrs. Garrett: I don’t know if that is best, Jo.
Jo: Mrs. G, this is not open for discussion. (Jamie & Tisha walk back over)Now, lets go get a bite to eat.
(They all leave and eat, then come back to the hospital. It’s getting late in the evening now)
Jo: Jamie, do you think you and Tisha should be going back to the dorm now? It’s gettin late.
Jamie: I guess you’re right. Tisha, are you ready to go now?
Tisha: No, you go ahead. I’d like to stay a few more minutes. (Jamie tells everyone bye and leaves)
Tootie: I guess I need to go home now, too. I’m getting pretty tired. Tisha, do you want me to drive you back?
Natalie: I’ll drive her back, Tootie. I’m going right past there.
Tootie: Are you sure you don’t mind?
Natelie: I’m sure.
(Natalie, Tootie, Tisha, Mrs. G and Jo all hug each other goodbye and they all leave) (Natalie and Tisha are in Natalie’s car. )
I have actually finished the story, but I'll just post a page or so at a time. That way it won't be too long. Hope you like it.

1strunfan 11-26-2002, 08:58 AM Natalie: So, Tisha how are you doing?
Tisha: Okay, how about you?
Natalie: Fine. How is school?
Tisha: It’s great. I love going to Eastland. And, being Jamie’s roomate is great too.
Natalie: You girls certainly are good friend, aren’t you.
Tisha: The best! Just like the four of you.
Natalie: I am so glad. I hope JT and your new little brother or sister will be as close. I want him to have that kind of relationship.
Tisha: I hope so too.
Natalie: Speaking of relationships, are you still going with what’s his name?
Tisha: His name is Todd, and yes I am.
Natalie: Wow, you must really like him. Haven’t you been going out since Christmas?
Tisha: Yeah, we have. And I do like him alot. Aunt Natalie, can I tell you something?
Natalie: Sure.
Tisha: Well, I think I love him
Natalie: Really? Wow, that’s great Tisha, your first love. I remember my first love.
Tisha: Really? How old were you?
Natalie: Probably about your age. I thought it was true love. The kind that lasts for a lifetime.
Tisha: Was it?
Natalie: No, I’ve been in love alot of times.
Tisha: Really (looks puzzled)
Natalie: Yeah, really.
Tisha: Can I ask you a personal question?
Natelie: I guess.
(They pull in the Eastland parking lot, and sit in the car and talk)
Tisha: Did you, you know, do it before you were married?
Natalie: Well, if you promise you won’t tell anyone I told you. Yes, I did.
Tisha: Oh my gosh. I can’t believe it. How old were you? Who was it with?
Natalie: I was 21. It was with a guy named Snake. Why do you ask?
Tisha: Oh, no reason.
Natalie: Tisha, I was honest with you. Why don’t you be honest with me?
Tisha: Well, okay. If you promise you won’t tell my mom.
Natalie: Okay.
Tisha: It’s Todd. He really wants to, you know. And I don’t know. Jamie says no, but I don’t know.
Natalie: Well, you are only 15.
Tisha: Almost 16. And, Todd is 18. He’s a senior. He really wants to. What if he dumps me if I don’t? I don’t want to loose him.
Natalie: I know this is going to sound incredibly stupid. But, it is really your decision. You shouldn’t let Todd pressure you into it. When the time is right, you will know it. I don’t think 15 is the right time. But, it is still your decision.
Tisha: I can’t believe it. I figured you’d lecture me or something. And forbid me not to.
Natalie: Well, I don’t want you to. I don’t think you are ready. But, I can’t really stop you, can I. All I can say is: It will change you for the rest of your life. You can never go back. It is a very adult decision, and shouldn’t be taken lightly. You think about it. And, if you want to talk, you know where I am.
Tisha: (hugs Natalie) Thanks Aunt Natalie. I’d better get in before it’s too late.
Natalie: Okay, bye. Remember, if you need me I’m here.
(Tisha gets out and goes in. Natalie gets JT from Beverly Ann and goes home)
(Jo and Mrs. Garrett are at the hospital. They walk over to the nurse’s desk)
Jo: Excuse me, we are here with Mrs. Warner. Can we go back and see her now?
Nurse: The doctor wanted me to page him when you came back. He wanted to talk with you first. Please take a seat.
(The nurse pages the Dr. And Jo and Mrs. G sit and wait. Soon the Dr walks up to them, and they both stand up)
Dr: You two are here with Mrs. Warner?
Jo: Yeah.
Mrs. Garrett: How is she?
Dr: Well, the brain swelling seems to be going down.
Jo: Great. (smiles at Mrs. G)
Dr: Yes and no. The swelling is going down, and she seems to be able to breath on her own. So we’ve removed the breathing machine.But...
Ryanmo97 11-26-2002, 03:47 PM  Why did you stop there?! PLEASE MORE!
JDS84 11-26-2002, 08:27 PM Awesome. Post more as soon as you can.
1strunfan 11-26-2002, 09:58 PM Mrs. G: What but
Dr: Well, although her physical condition seems to be getting better, she is still not responding. She may have perminent brain damage.
Mrs. G: And what does that mean?
Dr: That means, that even though her physical body may get better, she may be a vegetable for the rest of her life.
Jo: That can’t be.
Dr: I’m afraid it can. The next 12 to 24 hours will make all the difference. I will say this though. Recent studies show that some coma patients can hear. So, you might try talking to her. Maybe it will cause a response in her.
Jo: Sure. We’ll try anything. Can we go in and see her now?
Dr. Yes, but again. Only 2 of you at a time. And, visiting hours will be over soon.
(The Dr. Walks away and Jo and Mrs. G go into Blair’s room. They walk over and stand on either side of her bed.)
Mrs. Garrett (looks at Blair) : Hi Blair, it’s Mrs. Garrett. I just talked to Beverly Ann. Baby Joanna is doing fine. Tad will be here as soon as he can. They miss you, Blair. (tears well in her eyes. She begins to cry and can no longer talk. This time it is Jo who comforts Mrs. G)
(In the back ground you hear a hospital announcement: Visiting hours are now over. )
Jo: Mrs. Garrett, you better be goin’ now.
Mrs. G: Are you sure you want to stay with her alone. I can stay too if you need me.
Jo: No, you go . I’ll be fine. Beverly Ann and Baby Jo need you at home. Go. I’ll be fine.
(Mrs. Garrett wipes away tears and tells Blair goodbye, kissing her on the forehead. Then, gives Jo a hug and leaves. Jo is now alone with Blair)
Jo: Hey Blair. It’s me again. You know, if you wanted to spend time alone with me, we could have thought of something better than this, don’t you think? (tries to laugh)
(A nurse walks in)
Nurse: Ma’am, visiting hours are over, I’m afraid I’m going to have to ask you to leave now.
Jo: I’m not leaving. I’m sorry but I’m just not.
Nurse: But Ma’am. That is the rules.
Jo: (a little angry) I don’t care about your stupid rules. This is my best friend, and I’ll be damned if I’m leaving.
Nurse: (sees the resolve on Jo’s face) Okay, but you’ll have to be very quiet. (she turns and leaves)
Jo: (turns back to Blair) I know, you think I could have handled that a little more diplomaticly. Well, if you don’t like it you can just sit up and tell me about it. (pauses, waiting) I never could handle myself the way you wanted me to. Do you remember the time ....(Jo starts to reminesce and talks about the many adventures she and Blair have had together over the years. Hours go by and Jo keeps talking about the old times. And how much fun they had and the fights they had. She stops and looks at the monitors and listens to the quietness of the room. All she can hear is Blair’s breathing and the steady beep beep of the heart monitor. )
Jo: (sitting in a chair next to Blair’s bed. Takes her hand.) Blair. You need to wake up. Just please wake up. Tad needs you. He loves you more than anything. Baby Joanna needs you too. I know you are going to be the perfect mom. (smiles) I know, as you would say, “ of course, aren’t I always perfect”. Blair, please, I’m begging you . Sit up and say how perfect you are. (pauses, waits) Mrs. G, Tootie, Natalie, they all need you. (tears fill her eyes and she doesn’t try to hold them back. The spill over and run down her cheeks) Blair. I need you. I can’t imagine my life without you. I don’t even want to try. I can’t go on without you. You are the best friend I’ve ever had. I miss you already. I miss my friend. Oh, I know I act all tough like I don’t need anyone. But, the truth is.....I need you. You can’t leave me. Who will I argue with, and laugh with. Oh, sure I can do that with anyone, but it’s not the same. Somehow, you bring out the best in me. You are like the sister I never had. I’m not as strong without you. Please come back to us.....to me. (just then, Jo thinks she felt Blair squeeze her hand) Blair, don’t tease me now. If you can hear me, squeeze my hand, come back to us. (No resonse. Jo is disappointed and tired. She gets up and goes to a recliner across the room and goes to sleep. A couple of hours later she wakes up. It is almost dawn now, and the sun starts to peek through the window under the curtains. The nurse comes in and asks Jo to leave so they can check Blair out. Jo goes and gets a donut and coffee from the cafeteria and comes back as the nurse is walking out of the room. She sits in the chair next to Blair’s bed, drinks her coffee and eats her donut.
Jo: . Blair, I have something to tell you. I’m pregnant. I haven’t even told Rick yet. I just found out a couple of days ago. I want to share this time with you. I need you to help me through this. With Rick gone so much, I need you to help me. (She feels overwhelmed, sick, hurt, and angry. She throws her empty coffee cup in the trash and puts her head in her hands and weeps.)
Jo: Blair. What am I going to do without you?
Jo_Marie 11-27-2002, 12:47 AM Don't Tease Me Please, When it gets Good, you cut off. Write more Soon.
Guys, I'm to tired to write anything on mine tonight, I have been cooking the better part of the day and will continue to so over the next few days.
1strunfan 11-27-2002, 09:09 AM Sorry I keep cutting off, but I'm afraid my posts are too long. Don't want it to be a chore to read so much at once.
(Blair opens her eyes. She sees Jo crying the back of Blair’s hand pushes on Jo’s shoulder and she whispers)
Blair: Jo, it’s okay. You don’t have to.
( Jo jerks her head out of her hands and turns to see Blair’s eyes open. She stands and looks at Blair. She grabs her hand with one hand and tries to wipe away the tears with the other.)
Jo: Blair. You’re back
Blair: I, I guess so.
Jo: (pushes the nurse button) It’s about time.( she bends and give Blair a hug. Just then the nurse walks in accompanied by the doctor)
Nurse: Ma’am (looking at Jo) Would you mind stepping out so we can evaluate Mrs. Warner?
Jo: Yes, I would mind. I’ll step back, but I won’t step out. (Jo steps back, but keeps her eyes on Blair. This time she is smiling and crying tears of joy. She is so happy she doesn’t even try to hide them.)
(The nurse and Dr evalutate Blair’s condition. Then turns to Jo and asks her to step outside with him)
Jo: Blair, I’ll be right back.
Blair: Okay (still sounding groggy)
(Outside Blair’s room)
Jo: (smiles) So, what do you think
Dr: (looking at Jo, smiles) I guess Miracles never cease.
Jo: Is she going to be okay?
Dr. I think so. He brain swelling has gone back down to almost normal. She seems to have feeling in all her extremeties, and everything looks great. She’ll be moved to a regular room later today, and she can go home in a week or so.
Jo: (hugs the doctor, then pulls away quickly) Thanks, Doc.
Dr: I don’t know how this happened, but I am sure glad it did. Your friend in their must have a very strong will.
Jo: (smiles) You don’t know the half of it. (The doctor walks away talking to the nurse, and Jo re-enters Blair’s room)
Blair: Jo
Jo: (standing next to Blair’s bed) Yeah,
Blair: What did the Dr. Say?
Jo: (smiling) He said that you have a swelled head, and I told him he didn’t know the half of it.
Blair: (grinning slightly) Oh Jo. You never change. What happened to the nice Jo that talked to me all night?
Jo: You heard me?
Blair: Yeah, I tried to squeeze your hand, or say something, but I couldn’t make anything work. So I just listened. On the inside I was laughing and crying right along with you. But, I couldn’t make you hear me.
Jo: I’ll forgive you this time. So, did you hear everything?
Blair: I think so. Maybe not, I drifted in and out.
Jo: Oh.
Blair: I heard that you can’t live without me. (grins)
Jo: I was just saying anything to get a response out of you.
Blair: You did mean it, though didn’t you Jo.
Jo: Yeah, I did.
Blair: And (she pauses) are you pregnant?
Jo: (blushes) So, you heard that too, huh.
Blair: Yes, and I am so happy for you.
Jo: Blair, Thanks.
Blair: For what?
Jo: Coming back to us. . . . to me.
(They both cry and Jo gives Blair a hug. Just then, Mrs. G, Natalie and Tootie walk in)
Jo: (smiling from ear to ear, wipes away the tears)Hey guys! Guess who decided to wake up?
Jo_Marie 11-27-2002, 04:35 PM more, more.
1strunfan 11-27-2002, 04:52 PM Figured I might as well post the rest of the story. With Thanksgiving and all, I might not get a chance to post later. Sorry it is so long. I hope you like it. Let me know.
Thanks
Mrs. Garrett: BLAIR! (she rushes over and gives Blair a hug. Tootie and Natalie hug Blair and they are all crying.) You really had us worried.
Blair: Sorry.
(In walks the nurse)
Nurse: I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to ask 2 of you to leave, please.
Jo: Okay, I’ll leave. I want to call Rick, and the Girls.
Mrs. Garrett: I’ll go with Jo. We need to call Tad, too. (Jo and Mrs. Garrett walk out with the nurse)
Natalie: So, Blair. How do you feel?
Blair: Fine, I guess.
Tootie: You look great. Awake and everything.
Blair: Oh my gosh, I didn’t even look. How is my hair?
Natalie: (looks at Tootie and grins) Same old Blair.
Tootie: Like I said, you look great.
Natalie: Jo fixed your hair.
Blair: Jo? (Natalie and Tootie shake their heads yes) She did?
Natalie: Yeah, Mrs. Garrett said that was the first thing she did. She didn’t want anyone to see you with it all messed up. (tears fill her eyes)
Tootie: You know Blair, Jo really does love you. She didn’t want you left alone for one minute.
Blair: I know, and she stayed awake all night talking to me.
Tootie: (sounding shocked) You heard her?
Blair: Sort of. I drifted in and out, but yeah I heard most of it.
Natalie: So, what did she say?
Blair: I can’t remember alot of it. Just mainly she talked about our fights, and our fun.
Natalie: No wonder she talked all night. There was so much to cover. (the girls all laugh)
In the waiting room, Jo hangs up the phone and Mrs. Garrett walks over.
Mrs. Garrett: Tad says he’ll be back tomorrow. They are pretty sure the hurricane will be out of the area enough to get a plane out by then.
Jo: That’s great. I’m sure Blair would love to see him.
Mrs. Garrett: Jo, are you okay?
Jo: (smiling) Sure, I’m great.
Mrs. Garrett: Jo, seriously. You’ve really been through alot in the last couple of days. How are you feeling? You don’t look like you feel too well. A little pale.
Jo: Mrs. G, really, I’m fine.(smiling)
Mrs. Garrett: You know, you really are something. So strong all the time.
Jo: I’m not really. When I thought she wasn’t going to make it, I wanted to lie down and die with her.
Mrs. Garrett: You know Jo, being strong doesn’t mean that you are always in control. Being strong is doing what needs to be done in spite of how you feel. She needed you, and you were there for her.
(Tootie and Natalie walk up)
Tootie: They’re moving Blair to a regular room, so we had to leave.
Natalie: They said it would be a little while before we could see her again.
Tootie: She insisted that someone wash her hair and fix it before anyone else came to see her.
Mrs. Garrett: (smiling) Same old Blair.
(They all hug and walk away from the waiting room)
( 10 days later at Mrs. Garrett’s house. Mrs. Garrett is holding JT, Beverly Ann is sitting next to her. Tootie and Natalie are sitting at the table. In walks Blair followed by Jo carrying Baby Jo)
Blair: Hello everyone.
Jo: Hey guys.
Beverly Ann: Jo, bring that baby over here. (she takes the baby from Jo, Jo and Blair walk over and sit at the table with Natalie and Tootie)
Tootie: Nice to see you up and around so well, Blair.
Blair: Thanks, Tootie. It’s good to be up and around.
Natalie: You are just in time to help us with Tisha’s Sweet 16 party.
Beverly Ann: Sweet 16, and never been kissed.
(They all just roll their eyes and giggle)
Blair: Well, what do you have planned so far?
Tootie: We are thinking maybe a beach party theme.
Blair: Great. You can have it at the Inn. We’ll take over one of the conference rooms. Have it decorated.
Tootie: Blair, that sounds expensive.
Blair: Nonsense. I’ll pay for it..We’ll have the chef cook something Hawaiian, and you will swear you are stepping into the tropics.
Tootie: Blair, I don’t know.
Jo: Come on, Tootie. Let her.
Blair: Tootie, I want to do this. A girl’s 16th party is very special.
Tootie: I guess, if you insist.
Blair: Well, then it’s all settled. I’ll go make the calls. (she goes to the kitchen)
Natalie: Jo, are you siding with Blair?
Jo: I guess. You know she won’t leave you alone until you let her anyways.
Tootie: I guess you’re right.
(the doorbell rings. Jamie and Tisha walk in.
Jamie: Hi everyone.
Tisha: What’s going on?
Tootie: Nothing, what are you girls doing here?
Jamie: We thought some of Mrs. Garrett’s cookies sounded good so we thought we’d stop by.
Mrs. Garrett (Handing JT to Natalie) Well, I don’t have any made, but lets go make some.
Beverly Ann: That sounds like a great idea.
Natalie: I think I’ll put JT down for his nap.
Jo: Jo looks like she could use one, too. (takes Joanna from Beverly Ann)
Tisha: I’ll put her down, Aunt Jo. (takes the baby from Jo)
Jo: Okay, if you want.
(Everyone except Nat and Tisha go into the kitchen. Blair is just finishing up with her phone calls)
(Natalie and Tisha take the kids to the nursery ((Andy’s old room)), and lay them in their cribs.)
Tisha: Aunt Natalie, can I talk to you?
Natalie: Sure, what about?
Tisha: What we talked about the other day, you know me and Todd.
Natalie: Okay (she looks at Tisha who looks a little sick) Are you alright?
Tisha: (with tearfilled eyes) Todd broke up with me.
Natalie: (hugs her, looking worried.) Oh, I’m so sorry Tisha. Did you two....uh
Tisha: No, that’s why he broke up with me.
Natalie: (looking very releaved) I’m so glad. Not that he broke up with you,but that you didn’t.
Tisha: I am too. I really thought he was the one, but I thought alot about what you said, about not being able to go back. Aunt Natalie, thanks for talking with me about this.
Natalie: No problem. You can come to me any time. (they hug and go into the kitchen)
Blair: Hey you two, how are the babies?
Tisha: Sleeping like, well babies.
Tootie: Since we are all here, I’ve got something to tell you. We are having a boy!
Natalie: (hugs her) I am so glad!
Blair: Jo, don’t you have something you’d like to tell us, too.
Jo: What do you think, Jamie? Should I?
Jamie: Sure mom, go ahead.
Jo: (smiles) Well, okay. I guess I might as well. I’m pregnant.
Mrs. Garrett: Jo, when did you find out?
Jo: The day before Blair’s accident.
Mrs. Garrett: Why didn’t you tell us? No wonder you looked so pale at the hospital.
Tootie: Oh Jo, I’m so happy for you.
Natelie: Me too. Do you realize that we are all going to have kids about the same age?
Beverly Ann: I think it’s wonderful. (She looks at Mrs. Garrett with a serious face) Do you think we can handle another generation of them????
Mrs. Garrett: I don’t know, but I’d love to try.
(They all laugh. )
THE END:D
