View Full Version : Episode name?
Warm & Fuzzy 11-23-2002, 01:36 AM Does anyone know the name of the episode where Lucy and Ricky are in this Scottish-type fantasy? Lucy was afriad that a monster is after her or something and Ricky and them are dancing around the village. It sounds awkward, but was there an episode at least similiar to this? If so, when will it re-air? Thanks.
White_Daisy 11-23-2002, 10:28 AM do you know when it aired?
dawsongirl 11-23-2002, 06:39 PM It's called "Lucy Visits Scotland"...I think. It's #144.
*ShortCake* 11-23-2002, 06:46 PM LOL I HATED that episode.. horrible horrible horrible.. one of the worst.. I think I even rather watch Drafted then Lucy visits scotland :X

Barnabas1 11-23-2002, 08:03 PM Yeah Ashley. I agree; I hated that episode.;)
LucyFan 11-24-2002, 12:42 AM The episode that you're referring to is episode #144 of the series entitled "Lucy Goes to Scotland". It is one of the European episodes that took place in the fifth season of the show.
SPLAIN 11-25-2002, 01:55 PM Drafted and Scotland, it's a tie, they are both BAD! However the music in the Scotland episode is not bad!
Mickey 11-25-2002, 04:12 PM You know, I kinda like "Drafted"... :)
dawsongirl 11-25-2002, 05:45 PM Well, I like the Scotland episode. :)
*ShortCake* 11-25-2002, 06:17 PM True Claude.. LOL I guess I have to admit I kinda sorta liked the song that vivian and bill did about the two headed dragons. LOL

SPLAIN 11-26-2002, 02:38 PM I've said this a hundred times, but as a kid i HATED those musical numbers on the show, i was watching a COMEDY show, not a musical, but over the years and hearing them over and over they have become classics like White Christmas by Bing Crosby, and now i LUV'em!
Mickey 11-26-2002, 04:28 PM Why can't a comedy show have music in it as well? Besides, some of the musical numbers are funny, like Auf Wiedersehen, My Dear and Nobody Loves The Ump. Others are sort of funny, like The Straw Hat Song, with the cleaning lady joining in. Others are great. Desi and the band were cool.
SPLAIN 11-26-2002, 05:14 PM I think the musical numbers fit in perfectly because of the fact that he was a nightclub performer, and the wife always wanted to get into the act, AND the landlords were ex vaudevilians, but a five year old kid gets more out of a situation that's funny than from 50 year old musical numbers. I have to add that just hearing the names of the songs makes me long to hear them, especially the UMP!
Mickey 11-26-2002, 06:23 PM Ah. Didn't realise you were so young when you first saw it. I was about fifteen I think, so I probably appreciated it more. I've got to say, actually, the musical interludes on a lot of British comedies used to annoy me when I was very young. Morecombe and Wise, the kings of British comedy, used to do song and dance numbers a lot, and I like them a lot more now than I used to. Ditto the musical numbers in shows like "Not Only... But Also..."

I'm trying to think of shows like that over here...oh, I've got Monty Python stuck in my head now. I'll think of something.
Oh...haha, so this isn't even American, but I've got two episodes of The Diana Dors Show from 59 or 60 and it had musical numbers between sketches. I think I watched them the first time (well, except for that opera number) but fast forward through them now. Except for the politically correct "Old Man River" version Richard did. That was funny.
Mickey 11-26-2002, 07:27 PM Everything had musical numbers back in those days. I think it was a hang over from the old music hall days. Some shows did them straight, others made a joke out of them, but the Python team have often said that they and Spike Milligan were the first people not to put any music into their comedy shows. It was such an expected part of it all until then. Light entertainment standard I guess.
I've never seen the Diana Dors show... can't say that I'm sorry! As for American alternatives to Morecambe and Wise, most people compare them to Dino and Jerry Lewis. Not quite the same, because Morecambe and Wise didn't really make films, and were totally stand up and sketch orientated, but they were compared because of their huge popularity as a double act. Couldn't think of a comparison for "Not Only...", but then I don't know many American sketch shows! It was bloody good, anyway. Monochrome sixties comedy - sketches and some musical numbers, largely because of Dudley Moore's amazing musical abilities. Did it get shown in the States?

I've never heard of "Not Only..."
Laugh-In sounds familiar, but I don't recall musical numbers in that. Well, goofy ones I guess.
Diana's show was really only good because "Dickie" Dawson was in it.
Mickey 11-27-2002, 10:06 AM Lots of shows with names like "Laugh In" over the years. Russ Abbot had one back in the eighties which had jokey songs, mostly Mounties pretending to be operatic if I remember right. "Not Only... But Also..." was done in the sixties by Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, fresh from rewriting TV comedy history with "Beyond The Fringe" (That one did go to America. Did very well there even though it was all very topical humour). Most of "Not Only..." was cleverly deleted by the BBC, who liked doing things like that back then, but what remains is of superb quality. If you've never seen the Order of the Leaping Nuns, or the one-legged actor applying for the job of Tarzan, then you're missing a vital part of your education... :)
SPLAIN 11-27-2002, 12:13 PM Here in Canada, we get lots of British shows for obvious reasons, but i'm not that familiar with the ones you're mentionning. As a teen, i LOVED Monthy Python, and am hooked on many Bristish shows like Keeping up Appearances, Fawlty Towers, (Gary's fave), and now that i get BBC on the satellite, i'm sure, i'll get to see many others!
Mickey 11-28-2002, 05:38 AM Don't bother - they're all dreadful nowadays! If you like Monty Python, though, you'll like "Not Only..." It doesn't come on often, because the BBC was really rather good at deleting their own shows back in the seventies, so it tends to only come aroud now on compliation video releases, but it's well worth a look.
Barnabas1 11-28-2002, 08:18 AM I watched Brittish shows up there in Ontario (see, I lived there so short I cannot even spell it!). They weren't that great.
Mickey 11-28-2002, 12:29 PM There was a time when Britain made some of the most outstandingly good television ever devised. I'm still amazed by the quality of things like "Edge Of Darkness" and "Between The Lines", or "Drop The Dead Donkey" and "Cardiac Arrest". Then reality TV was invented, and standards dropped, and game shows took over, and standards dropped further. Now British drama is appalling, the comedy isn't funny, and the actors can't act. I don't really watch much TV anymore, and I used to be a virtual addict.
SPLAIN 11-28-2002, 03:22 PM Again we agree Mickey, i was a TV addict also, but i thought since i was raised by the medium, i should appeciate it, and i too consider the advent of reality programming to be the death knell for TV. It's happened before, in the 70's there were many of them, That's Incredible and Real People to name but two, thank God that died out and it was back to normal for a while, but now these shows are popular again because they are so cheap to make, and MONEY is ruining TV the same way it ruined sports and Movies too! I've said this before but in the 50's and 60's there were always three things on at once that were great and we could only watch one, now that we have VCR's, we can tape everything, but there so seldon is something worth taping on!
Barnabas1 11-29-2002, 08:19 AM Claude, Claude, Claude! You amd Mickey are like Amy and me! LOL!
SPLAIN 11-29-2002, 11:01 AM I WISH! He ALWAYS makes great points, and ALWAYS knows what he's talking about!
Mickey 11-29-2002, 12:06 PM You people all seem to know each other! Do you all live in the same house? :)
SPLAIN 11-29-2002, 02:48 PM He's Ricky of the Babalu board, with a name like that i'm surprised you haven't joined yet. Ricky, is your real name Todd, becaue i got an e mail from someone and i couldn't open it. Also did you take your name from the way Mrs Mcgillicuddy called Ricky, Mickey? Finally, are you UK Lucy fan who sometimes pops up on the boards? We would all love you and old shows and Buddy Love and anybody else who wants to, come on the other Lucy sites like The Lucy classroom or Lucy Talk, i won't be happy till all fans post on every board!
Mickey 11-29-2002, 02:54 PM I've been called Mickey for years. It's because I like to take the Mick... Originally I used a far less normal sounding name whilst online, but it used to annoy some people because it was so unrevealing, so I use Mickey in places like this. People seem to prefer it. Don't know why, it's just as anonymous and just as assexual.
And no, I'm not UK Lucy Fan. This is the only Lucy board I go to. :)
SPLAIN 11-29-2002, 04:24 PM Ok, so you're not Todd who e mailed me, fine, you mean you might not even be a HE, wow, shocker, i thought sure you were a guy, but then again, you almost NEVER agree with me and seem to love to disagree, so that could mean you are female, ha ha. The obvious question here would be, why don't you go to other boards? Dawsongirl paying you to stay here exclusively? I'm off for the weekend now, so see you all Monday! Have a great weekend everybody, i gotta go find out what that Mick expression means!
Mickey 11-29-2002, 05:18 PM If I went to other boards I'd never get anything done!

It is NOT a tie! Drafted sucks, but the Scotland episode was a unique departure for the typical ILL episode. Very creative and original, except that wasn't it a take-off on Brigadoon? That episode is far from being one of my favorites, but I think it's far and away better than most people give it credit for. And yes, the music in it is quite good.

SPLAIN 12-02-2002, 12:21 PM Hi Janie baby, nice to argue with you again! I NEVER said comedy shows shouldn't have music in them, i said as a child, i didn't like that. I always watched the Monkees, very different, i was not the biggest fan of the Partridge and Brady families, but i did watch them, i was OLDER then. I think the kids watch ILL for the comedy sequences, not for the I am the good Prince Lancelot type numbers, but they DO grow on you when you've been hearing them for 50 years! And i'm afraid i've goofed again, when lately i've been saying i Love the music on the Scotland episode, i 'm thinking of the Queen of the Gypsies episode instead! I still HATE the Scotland episode, departure indeed, it stank! Just my opinion of course, the worst ILL episode is still better than most OTHER TV shows!
Barnabas1 12-02-2002, 12:58 PM Oh Jane, Have you sent the Lucy sound clips yet?:(

SPLAIN 12-03-2002, 12:35 PM Nothing to worry about Ricky, i don't mind people disagreing with me, especially when i respect their opinions, and Janie's one smart cookie!
Barnabas1 12-03-2002, 01:05 PM Good, b/c I was worried when you weren't on the boards!
SPLAIN 12-03-2002, 02:27 PM I tried all day yesterday to post on your board, but couldn't it took an hour and a half for anything to happen, i tried every way and nothing worked, i'm on there today, must have been all you Americans on the internet yesterday after a four day break for Thanksgiving!
Barnabas1 12-03-2002, 02:44 PM Hmmmm..I wasn't moving to the new server..I wonder ehat that was?

SPLAIN 12-13-2002, 12:00 PM I swear i have heard MORE people knock Drafted and Scotland than any other shows, so because of that, some people watch expecting the worst and then they wonder what the heck we were talking about!
Leigh Ann 12-23-2002, 01:11 PM I hate "Lucy goes to Scotland." It's one of my few least favorite episodes. I don't watch it every time it comes on TVLand.
SPLAIN 12-23-2002, 01:58 PM Someone once said it was quite a departure for them, can't argue with that, just wish they hadn't!
