In modern history, mass shootings, although a rare occurrence, have been a topic of concern for decades. As we learn more about the complex societal factors linked to mass shootings, we also try to understand what we can do to prevent these events from occurring. More specifically, when talking about the mass shooting taking place inside of a school, it’s almost unfathomable of a concept. There isn’t one solution to this problem. As mass shootings have become somewhat more common, we also see events like this tackled in fiction. In this video, I discuss the topic of school shootings and how they’re handled on television. One of the main questions I have in this discussion is whether it is beneficial to humanize the shooter in the narrative? How do the shows handle the shooting itself as well as the aftermath.
