To me the saddest movie I ever seen would be "What Dreams May Come" starring Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding Jr. It deals with death and after life and and quest of Robin Williams after life to reunite with his wife who committed suicide. Very heavy subject matter and it seem Robin is sobbing thru out the whole movie with "painted" back ground scenery that add to the atmosphere sadness of this movie. Definitely not a date night movie :)

I have not seen Somewhere In Time or three animated movies Torgo mentioned, but seen Brian's Song and Philadelphia with Tom Hanks. Tom Hank siting alone in the room listening to Opera (La Mamma Morta) was probably one of most powerful and saddest scene in a movie.
