Sometimes it's on purpose, yes. But I think other times the person is absorbed in their own thoughts, or, unfortunately, in their device.

Yeah I wish they still sold that Freshen up gum! Discontinued in 2019. That could be why so many people are mean these days, they miss Freshen up gum?

It reminds me of a Seinfeld episode where Jerry told George he had soured on a woman. George for some reason wanted him to keep seeing her so he told Jerry to de-sour and to sweeten up. LOL People are too sour today. They need to de-sour and sweeten up. :)

For one thing, a lot of people won't say hi to people they don't know. So when you say hi, they may be more surprised than anything else.
