Looney Tunes Review Project: Short #786 of 1000.

Today, we review The Honey-Mousers (1956), directed by Robert McKimson and written by Tedd Pierce. This colour short introduces us to a rodent-sized spoof of the legendary Jackie Gleason sitcom, The Honeymooners, as mice versions of Ralph and Ed try to outwit a guarding cat to score some cheese for Alice. Joining me today to discuss this flawless sitcom parody are my great guests, Kamden Spies and Mark Arnold!

In this review, we dive into the HD restoration of this short, noting the incredible background gags like the "Lost Wages" poker chips and the hilariously engineered "Trojan Dog." We discuss the massive misconception that Stan Freberg provided the voice work, confirming it was actually the legendary Daws Butler alongside June Foray. We also examine how Jackie Gleason personally gave this cartoon his blessing, the fascinating absence of I Love Lucy parodies in the Warner Bros. catalogue, Milt Franklyn's musical cues, and Irwin Jay's incredibly rare editing credit.
