by Denise Petski
April 15, 2026

For the first time in its 54-year history on CBS, television’s longest-running game show will air live with The Price is Right Live, a Christmas primetime special.

Hosted by Drew Carey, with announcer George Gray, the special will provide viewers with “unprecedented behind-the-scenes access alongside Carey, Gray, the models and production team as they race to keep the show on track-resetting games, transforming the stage and beating the clock,” according to CBS.

Contestants will “Come on down!” to play fan-favorite games Plinko, Cliffhangers and Lucky Seven, before spinning The Big Wheel for a shot at a luxury showcase.

I think the original host of TPIR was Bill Cullen.

Bill Cullen hosted the original version of The Price is Right from 1956 to 1965.

This video has been out for two years, but I only discovered it about three months ago. The beginning has COLOR VIDEOTAPE of the closing of a Cullen TPIR:

Unmistakably Don Pardo announcing, even before he gave his name.

Thank you cd637299 for posting that link. I'm interested in Cullen's career and certainly never expected to see any color footage related to his TPIR hosting. Interesting, to say the least...! It's tremendous that UCLA has built archives that include such rare TV material.
