Jana Kramer is "speechless" upon learning that Gaslit by My Husband is No. 1 on Netflix.
On Wednesday, March 18, Kramer posted about the 2024 Lifetime film gaining attention on the streaming platform. "#1 movie in the U.S. on @netflix today and I’m honestly speechless. So grateful, and so emotional," she wrote on Instagram.
"But like I shared yesterday, this movie means so much more to me than a ranking. This was a deeply personal project to be part of. Through Morgan’s story, I found strength in my own journey with domestic violence," she continued. "I’m incredibly thankful she was brave enough to share her truth, because in telling her story, I found healing in mine."
Kramer concluded, "And from the many messages you’ve sent me, I know it’s resonating in ways that matter far beyond a number."
Lifetime also reacted to the show's high ranking on the streamer.
"We are committed to telling stories that not only engage audiences but also shine a light on important real-world issues under our Stop Violence for Women initiative," the network said in a statement obtained by Entertainment Weekly.
"We were honored to partner with Morgan and Jana to tell this important story to raise awareness around gaslighting and domestic violence, and to help empower viewers to identify and seek help in similar situations. We are grateful to Morgan for trusting us and for her continued advocacy on behalf of survivors.”
Gaslit by My Husband tells the story of Morgan Metzer (Kramer), who suffered years of alleged emotional and physical abuse from her ex-husband Rodney Metzer (Austin Nichols). The former couple married in 2009 and share two children. Following years of alleged gaslighting and their relationship unraveling, however, Morgan filed for divorce in 2020.
After their divorce was finalized that December, Morgan claimed that Rodney continued to gaslight her. On New Year's Eve 2020, Morgan was attacked by a home intruder, who beat her, tried to strangle her, zip-tied her hands, and sexually assaulted her. The attacker ultimately was Rodney, the authorities announced. Rodney pleaded guilty to 14 counts related to Morgan's attack and the evidence included searches authorities found on his phone related to the attack.
In August 2021, Rodney was sentenced to 70 years (25 in prison and 45 on probation) and is prohibited from contacting Morgan and their children. Rodney is at Baldwin State Prison in Hardwick, Ga.
