For a sitcom, don't they have to have Lynn be unhinged for a laugh or two? At the end of the day, doesn't and/or shouldn't Lynn exist solely to break up the tension that's in the storyline between Toni and Joan? In other words, without Lynn, wouldn't the show be too serious? At least emotionally, she has a soul.
