If so, was he living out of his car. I say this because Michael said that he saw Thelma kissing a mystery man (which turned out to be Keith) in a new Cadillac. And we don't know exactly, where Keith was he living before the wedding.

More to the point, if Keith wasn't homeless, then why didn’t Thelma move in with him after he broke his leg tripping over JJ? Instead, Keith moved into Thelma‘s already crowded apartment in the ghetto.

Where did he park the Cadillac when he moved to the projects?

I suspect there is a Sweet Daddy conspiracy in there somewhere.

There is no official confirmation that Keith Anderson was homeless before marrying Thelma. While his specific living arrangements were never explicitly shown on screen, several key plot points suggest he likely had his own residence prior to the wedding:

Keith's Background and Status

Professional Athlete: When Keith is first introduced in Season 6, he is a star college running back for the University of Illinois who has just been drafted by the Chicago Bears.
The "Mystery Man" Cadillac: Michael mentions seeing Thelma kissing a man in a new Cadillac, which turned out to be Keith. As a newly signed NFL player with a contract, Keith had the financial means to afford a luxury car and, presumably, his own housing.

Why They Lived in the Ghetto After the Wedding

The reason Keith moved into the Evans' crowded apartment in the projects—rather than Thelma moving in with him—was due to the catastrophic injury he suffered on their wedding day:

Career-Ending Injury: On the way down the aisle, Keith tripped over J.J. and severely broke his leg. This injury cost him his NFL contract and his immediate source of high income.
Financial Struggle: Without his football salary, Keith was forced to take low-wage jobs, such as driving a cab, while he rehabilitated his knee.
Living Situation: Because they could no longer afford the life his NFL contract would have provided, the couple stayed in the Evans' apartment to save money. Fans and critics have often pointed out this plot point as a way for the show's writers to keep the characters in the familiar "struggling" setting of the Chicago projects.

The series ends with "The End of the Rainbow," where Keith's leg finally heals, he signs a new NFL contract, and he and Thelma finally move out of the projects into a luxury high-rise on Lake Shore Drive.

Interesting observation, TMC. If Keith was able to drive around the streets of southside Chicago in a brand spanking new Cadillac (without being robbed or carjacked, of course), surely he would've been living somewhere comfortable (and fashionable), and Thelma would've happily moved out of the Evans' apartment and into Keith's apartment shortly after their wedding. Thanks for commenting.

I think he was broke when he met Thelma as he didn't even have the money for his own wedding. JJ had to borrow $1K from Sweet Daddy to pay for Keith's wedding.
